Guest guest
Yuuko- There are a couple of airports relatively close to Iowa City. Your closest option, which accepts larger jet planes (rather than small charter ones) is Cedar Rapids. Our airport is about 20-30 min away from Iowa City. You would have to rent a car for the drive or know someone here. Iowa City has a small airport but takes just small airplanes. A cheaper route would be to fly into the Quad Cities (Moline, IL). It's a larger airport than Cedar Rapids so your tickets would probably be cheaper than if you flew here. It's a longer drive to Iowa City from Moline, but again since it's a larger city your car rental would be cheaper too. If you do need to rent a car, do you have AAA? You can get cheaper rates for car rentals if you do. We are lucky in that we live in Cedar Rapids so didn't have to worry about transportation to the U of IA. There are several families on the boards who have travelled here, and I'm sure they have lots of good advice for you. Hope this helps some! Guest guest
Hi Yukko, I just got back from a trip to Iowa. I fly in to Cedar Rapids (airport code CID) and rent a car for a day.. but there are also airport transportation/shuttle vans parked right outside the door, as well as taxis. it's a very easy airport to deal with, and it's only about a 20 mile drive, straight down a major highway, to Iowa City. Sorry I don't know the cost of the airport shuttles (you could call to find out). I also think some hotels have airport shuttle services. Best wishes on your baby's upcoming delivery! how exciting.. take care and let us know what happens! and Claire > Hi. Guest guest
Hi Yuuko, We didn't make any prior arrangements because Dr Ponseti told us that there would be a shuttle. When we landed it was easy to find because Cedar Rapids is a fairly small airport. The shuttle van dropped us right at RMD's door and didn't charge us anything at all. They told us it is a free service they donate to RMD guests. It's not necessary to hire a car (unless you'd like to) because RMD has a shuttle service to the hospital too. Wow, time goes fast... I remember the 1st email you sent to my website a while back. Enjoy your little one when he/she arrives - it is such a special time! and 24 Jan 2003, bilateral cf www.clubfoot.co.za Moss STEPS CHARITY www.steps.org.za Iowa airport transportation? Hi. I was wondering how people got to the Mc House (or other hotels) from the airport in Iowa? I'm due any day now and have been told that our baby has bilateral clubfeet and we are considering going to Iowa for the intial treatment. Thank you!
