Guest guest
A couple of suggestions for getting the shoes on....I have my husband distract him when I put the shoes on. He talks to him, holds toys over his head, lets Aleksander grab his face (he loves grabbing his face at the end of the day when it is all scruffy). If is out or is busy doing things around the house, then I just talk to him, make lots of noises, and play with his legs while I put the shoes on. I also find that putting on music videos helps. So does Sesame Street or Blues Clues. BTW, Aleksander is 7 months but we've been doing all of the diversionary tactics for the past 3 1/2 months now so they should work for you as well. As far as holding your little one, We found that at first, it worked to hold him in front of us, face out, with our arms underneath his legs so our arms formed sort of a chair. He was able to kick if he wanted, and it was also more comfortable for him. Now, however, we just hold him like any way that works. Once he was used to the shoes, it didn't matter how we held him, although he does love to look at everything so he still likes to be held facing out. > Hi Everyone > Looking to connect with other mom's that have a child with a form of > Club foot. Guest guest
Hello and welcome. I am sorry to hear about the other complications. There is a DBB tips and tricks list in the files section that may help you as well. Have you had any trouble getting the shoes on or keeping them on? Over time, you will develop the best method that works for you and your daughter while putting on the shoes. Some feed their babies while putting on the shoes, sing, or whatever works. I have a couple questions about your daughter. Did she have casting first? How about a tenotomy? I am sure she has had at least the casting otherwise the DBB wouldn't work. I am just asking since you didn't mention it. What doctor is your daughter seeing? You have come to a great place for answers and support. Guest guest
I pop Livi in the highchair to get her shoes on. She's strapped in and supported so we don't have to keep her from squirming. Sometimes I'll give her something interesting to look at while I'm doing it. I always tell her how pretty her shoes are so (hopefully) she'll have a good attitude towards them. You probably dont have a highchair yet if your baby is only 3 months. Maybe her bouncer or swing would work? Good luck! Her feet are not a true club foot but her dr. is treating it the same. I don't know the name of the brace she has on. Yes she is adjusting but i keep in mind i don't want her to relapse and this is just another step towards the end.We are seeing Dr.penny and he used the ponsetti method thanks again Becky __________________________________________________

Guest guest
Hi, I always lay Darbi down right in front of me on the couch like I'm going to change her diaper. It's easy for me to bend her knees 90 degrees and stuff that heel down into the shoes that way. I also have the buckles on the inside, they're much easier to reach and pull on when they're pointed at me than away, that's for sure. When she was little it wasn't an issue at all, she didn't need any distractions. Now that she's older, she knows when she lies down and gets her diaper changed for the night that it's shoe time. And she often slips her feet into them herself. We make a game of it if she is resistant, and as soon as I get her all worked up in the *put your socks on* game (I pretend to put them on her feet, and then pull back as if I don't want her to put them on and pull them away - a little reverse psychology lol...) she then puts her feet out and pushes them into the socks. The rest is a piece of cake at that point. She is however over 2yo now and has been wearing them faithfully since she was about the same age as your daughter. She has this routine down pat now, and actually sleeps rather badly without them at this point. She actually asks for her shoes if they're not on. The routine is very important here, and I'm no routine lover in the first place. But if you follow the proper bracing schedule and don't reduce past 16hr/d before she's walking your daughter too will come to be so used to them it'll be a breeze to put them on. I do know however that it took a few months of putting them on without the bar for me to be comfortable leaving them on the bar. If you have the gold bar you can take the shoes off and then attach them to the bar after you're sure they're nice and tight and her heels are down 100%. I will send you copies of the tips files to your email addy, in case you haven't had a chance to find them here yet. That should help you some. Guest guest
Hi there, Welcome to the group! I give our daughter a bottle while I put her shoes on. She is 16 months old now, so I normally would not still give a nighttime bottle, but she drinks away while I put her shoes on. Good luck. Guest guest
On the lighter side, one thing the tips and tricks list doesn't tell you is that the DBB, FAB and mitchell shoes go on so much easier after a glass of s! We had a horrible time getting them on in the beginning too, not because fought it, but because after everything we've been through I was paranoid I wasn't doing it right and didn't want to screw up again. That feeling does go away, but I just strongly recommend putting them on after having either a glass of wine or some baileys! That should be the first tip. And don't throw it should be the last. they are expensive to replace! LOL Hang in there, it gets better. 10-09-03 s faithfully 16 hours a day! > > > Hello and welcome. > > > > I am sorry to hear about the other complications. > > There is a DBB tips and > > tricks list in the files section that may help you > > as well. Guest guest
Becky, Do you know what your daughter's true diagnosis is/was if it isn't clubfoot? Is it metatarsus adductus? If so, the casting and even bracing isn't necessary. They say 99% correct themselves. I would certainly look into it. If your daughter doesn't have clubfoot, why is your doctor treating it as clubfoot? I just find that odd, thats all.
