Guest guest
Hello! I hope this is a healthy Super Bowl Sunday for everyone. I was wondering, and thought I would come to the experts. Is there anything to slow down process of muscle waste? Joey has a scoliosis appointment Friday, which went well. Yet the doctor noticed he has much more muscle waste. Big chest! Bib tummy! Yet very little arms, legs, waist and booty. All of his bones really protrude. Knees, ankles, hips, elbows. I am really finding myself putting larger colthes on him to hide it. I hate when people make such stupid comments about it. I have even heard he looks like a starving Ethiopia child. He really does eat well and not really under weight for his age...maybe for his height. He has always really looked healthy...until now. He is on CoQ10. Is there any other suppliment, just for this? Do any of you children resemble this? What did you do? Any help would be great! Thank you for everyone's help!!!!

Guest guest
I had the same issues growing up! I had scoliosis, and i looked like a bone rail... in spite of the fact that I could eat the rest of my friends under the table... While the doctors never made a big deal out of it (Ive alwasy had poor health, but mito never even occured to them until my son was diagnosed recently) i had MANY people trying to 'talk' to me about my eating habits... As a teenage girl, MANY well meaning people tried to 'intervene', thinking i had an eating disorder (I was 95lbs at 5'4 " ...). Anyways, while im still slender (im 9 months pregnant right now, so its not a good time to judge), I have at least put enough weight on to make me look somewhat healthy... I saw a dietician in 2003, and she had me on a high calorie diet, im serious when i say they had me eating 2 milkshakes a day, pasta with cream sauces, whole milk, basically the anti-atkins diet... it took nearly a year, but i put on 10 lbs, and it made a huge difference in my health.. I dont know how much taht applies to your son, but perhaps seeing a dietician, and working out a diet plan to help maximise what he does eat... my overall health improve MASSIVELY once i was on the diet, and weight gain did happen, though slowly... It is just as hard for chronically underweight people to gain weight, as it is for overweight people to lose it... Keely (mom to , 26 months, Complex 1) > > Hello! Guest guest
I probally would not worry about this, unless your doctors tell you too. Some kids, mito or not, are just skinny. I was infact VERY skinny until I had children of my own. My first wedding dress was a size zero, and when I got pregnant with my first child I was only 98 pounds. Things are much different now, and I am in a healthy range now. (Actually I am trying to loose weight for the first time in my life, since the birth of my baby 4 months ago.) When Grace was little she was underweight. We gave her MCT oil mixed into her foods for quite awhile (it is a prescription). Grace is now not skinny but is thin, she also has the big belly from low muscle tone. We do use Periactin (RX) as an appetite stimulant when she is not eating well, but that is to make sure she maintains her blood sugar, weight is no longer an issue with her. We also have a child (non mito) who is so very skinny but healthy as a horse. She can eat like a pig but never seems to gain weight. I guess some kids are just made that way. It must be something to do with the speed of there metabolism. (I wish I had that problem now. Ha ha) Find just what you're after with the new, more precise MSN Search - try it now!
