Guest guest
, Yes, we are in the process of finishing off our basement and putting a playroom in. We are using this playroom as 's wish from Make A Wish. We haven't gotten to the planning stages yet as my husband is just in the process of putting up the studs for the walls. We are probably a good 2-3 months out before MAW comes in. The woman from MAW told me to start thinking about some ideas for the playroom. I think we will do a mural of some sort on one wall. We also thought about putting one of those Step 2 playhouses in. I would love to hear any ideas you have. We do not have cooling vests yet. I started the process last summer with Iowa Medicaid but, had to have a letter stating the medical necessity. We see Dr. Whiteman next month so I will have to remember to bring that up. Please give me the resources you have in case medicaid won't pick it up. I love the idea of a hat as the girls also have photosensitivity and we could kill two birds with one stone with the hat. Do you have the name of a website that shows pictures of the items? Thanks for your suggestions! I'll keep you posted on our playroom project. Kim Re: Carnitor odor, (Kim) It is hard to believe that our kids are so fragile with heat, even in the winter. I bet you get alot of the same "looks" I do when going out. I'm waiting for a little old lady to tell me off when I have Gracie walking around in 30 degree weather with her coat unzipped because I know she is hot. If I am right, I remember you talking about making an indoor playground for your girls. We are in the process of buying a new home and want to do the same. Ideally we would love to find a house with a sun room that we can put AC in. I have some ideas about how to get a swing set in there, and would love to share. If you have any thoughts maybe we can "brainstorm" together. You do have cooling vests for your girls, right? If not please let me know, there are alot of great resources to get them, for free. We were able to get MDA to pay for Gracies vest, hat, wristbands, neck and, a cooling seat for her carseat, and even a cool teddy bear. This is the time of year to go about these things so you can get it for summer. Best wishes. Find files on your PC instantly with the new MSN Toolbar Suite beta – FREE! Guest guest
Hi Kim, Just thought I'd tell you how our playroom is for Jimmy & Ellie...we finished 1/2 of our basement for them two years ago. I really like how it turned out.... We painted each wall a different primary color....red, blue, yellow and green. Once a wall was painted, any wall facing that direction was painted that color. For example, we had to drywall around some posts so there is a big "box" in the middle of the room. When you look to the back of the room, the back wall is red, and so is the side of the "box" you are looking at. Plus, when you walk up the stairs, the wall at the top is red as well because it is parallel to the red walls in the room. I hope this makes sense. It turned out really cool and we get a lot of comments on it. We also painted murals on 3/4 walls. The blue wall has a large map of the United States...each state is painted a different color. My husband traced a map onto a transparency and then put it up on the wall with a projector he brought home from work. We traced the map onto the wall in pencil, then painted each state a different color with a bunch of paints I picked up at JoAnn's (the little plastic bottles - about $1.50 apiece or so...). Anyway, my kids will probably always think that California is yellow, Florida is purple and Texas is green (ha, ha!!). Another wall has a mural of a farm scene which we hired an art student to do ($12/hour). This is on the green wall. The yellow wall has the alphabet in red, both upper and lower case, in a zig/zig line. We then painted all of the numbers (0-9) twice (big and little) in different colors. I tried to send this with a picture of the kiddos in the room (shows the farm scene) but the pic was too big - so I posted it on Ellie's website (www.caringbridge.org/oh/ellie). I don't know if this helps or not, but we love it because it is somewhat education and colorful. They love to find the letters that we ask for, etc. Have fun! Kris.
