Can one eat pasta and tomato sauces post-op?

Carole: Oh, YEAH! I can't live without my pASTA, man! ROFL

I try to choose stuff with higher protein content (i.e. cheese or

meat-stuffed tortellini, etc.) but I've had regular pasta (penne with vodka

sauce) and no protein in sight. I personally haven't had any reactions to

various pasta dishes although some people might. I've had lasanga (LOVE IT!

and also full of protein), spaghetti with meat sauce, stuffed

shells/rigatone, tortellini, ravioli... It's seventh heaven! :):)

I've tried alfredo sauce (which really isn't high in protein although I

thought it might be since it IS a cheese sauce! LOL), vodka, various

tomato/marinara sauces... no problems at all.

If I haven't had much protein during the day, I'll whip up a protein shake at

night (or have one in the a.m. for breakfast and not be as concerned about

the protein requirement). I try to get about 80 gms/protein a day. If I go

under that two days in a row I have a protein drink for one or two days to

make up for it.

Viva Italia! Eat that pasta and enjoy!

all the best,

TEresa

Teressa,

From a fellow pasta lover: Alfredo is a cream sacue, not a cheese

sauce, so it is almost 100% fat - and great tasting at that! Through

a little chicken on top and you're in good shape.

Yes, of course it is a cream sauce but I thought it was derived from

cheeses... that's why I thought (mistakenly) it would be high in protein.

Yes, with chicken (or tuna or another protein),the alfredo is packed with

protein goodness!

Another example of something I thought would be higher in protein than it is:

cream cheese. It is made from cheese but really doesn't pack the same punch

as a few slices of American or other type cheese.

Umm.. might want to be near a potty, though, if you're very early

postop (wondered why that wonderful alfredo sent me straight to the

bathroom..!).. Speaking from experience.. Otherwise- ENJOY!!!

Okay...

So maybe I'll have to find some Big Sized Depends for a few weeks after

surgery? Still worth it!

Indeed, cream cheese is 10% protien and 90% fat. Dr Atkins considers

this the ideal ratio for weight loss (for those without surgery).

I am quite happy to learn that pasta goes down OK though, cause I

just love italian food. I get to much protien in my diet, so this is

going to be the perfect procedure for me.

I generally like to aviod vegatables on moral grounds - at least

animals can run away, the poor plants don't have a chance (LOL), but

I do make an exception for pasta and bread. Just to good to give up.

Chris: Oh, I still eat the stuff (alfredo and cream cheese), I just thought

I'd be packing more protein in when I do. LOL Yeah, I still haven't had

problems with pasta, noodles, rice, etc... but I started eating all these

things after three weeks post-op.

I still love certain veggies -- problem is I tend to love the ones high in

starches (agh! Carrots, peas, etc.)....

all the best,
