Guest guest
Just wanted to let everyone in this group read this. We just started to see Dr. Ponseti and when I read this I started to get worried. I can tell the difference in treatment and after only 3 weeks of treatment his foot for the first time in his life looks normal and moves with ease. Is this lady suggesting that Ponseti is not qualified? Please don't take to harshly, for us that see Ponseti know he is the best for our children Tabitha mom to Karter 7-30-04 below is e-mail from clubfoot group " Google searches on the subject reflect that a specific cause and treatment are not known. Treatments vary as the severity varies. I am an assistant to a General Magistrate who also happens to be a registered nurse (who used to deal in cancer treatment) and who also serves in an executive position in the state nurse/attorney group dealing with malpractice and areas of medical ethics. Not to mention that our area of law, juvenile dependency (child abuse/neglect) contains many medical instances of all types. The General Magistrate is very skeptical of the claims of 80% to 90% " cures " . The fact that Dr. Ponseti is not published speaks volumnes. The extraordinary claims of Dr. Ponseti are subject to disagreement. Such high rates of success based on anedotal evidence are questionable to say the least. That standard of proof is not accepted in my legal world, I promise. The fact that doctors are " certified " (read, does Dr. Ponseti charge for this certification?) in Ponseti treatment and that the website states " that if the Ponseti treatment provided by the physician fails, it is an error in the treatment " makes me alternately want to scream and/or throw up. Make sure the treatment you obtain for your child is decided upon by someone who has seen your child's foot, NOT A WEBSITE AND PARENTS OF CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF EIGHTEEN. Guest guest
I just sent a post questioning who she/he is. I wouldn't worry about the opinion of one person who has never met him or seen his work vs. the tons of pictures, videos and personal testimonies over the past 50 years proving he knows what he is doing. Besides, let's assume she's right and he's clueless, what have we lost? So our babies end up with surgery later in life, they would've gotten that without his treatment anyway! I don't think she really knows what she is talking about and I am not worried about one negative opinion, that is meaningless. Guest guest
I think the email questioning Ponseti treatment below is indicative of a level of ignorance in the treatment and of Talipes in general. Ponseti treatment is no longer the domain of one man in Iowa with expert orthopaedic surgeons (many of whom are published) from all over the world now using it as a standard treatment for the correction of talipes. My son is 3.5 yrs old, has been treated in England and is walking and running normally following successful ponseti treatment. We can only voice our experiences and these are worth far more than speculative google searches or ‘anecdotal evidence’. We are also not trying to prove the treatment in a legal scenario so the purpose and direction of this email confuses me – what was the intention of the author when writing it?? The email questions not only the Ponseti method of treatment but also the ability and intelligence of those parents who have opted for the treatment for their children – be under no illusions my wife and I made no decisions until we had researched, questioned and questioned again – we are happy we decided upon the route that we did. Tabitha - I wouldn’t worry about replying harshly, the person who wrote this didn’t care to think about its impact upon the readers for whom it was intended (and forgot to run a spell check)! Guest guest
Hi Tabitha, I would not worry, I have not heard a single bad word about Dr Ponseti from anyone that has been treated by him or whose child has been treated by him, quite the opposite in fact. Also, must not have 'googled' right since Dr Ponseti is both qualified and published and his claims of 95% success are well documented. In fact, more and more doctors convert to his method but I have yet to hear of a doctor that 'converted back' to doing surgery. Guest guest
I agree whole heartedly with your sentiments. We too live in England. Our three and half year old boy was treated in New Zealand by a doctor who had studied with Ponseti for two years and is also a consultant ortho surgeon who has a wonderful reputation in all areas of his subject. I hardly think that a man of his standing and intelligence and success rate would take on a technique such as Ponseti's if it was not any good. We think it is of course wonderful as our boy is running around with no pain. We researched high and low when we found out at my scan that he had bilateral club feet to find the best option for him and have never regretted that decision. The reason we went to New Zealand is that my husband comes form there and the doctor was on his family's door step. We believe so much in the technique that we attend the first clubfoot Ponseti conference in Manchester and our son was able to show just what can be achieved with this technique. Ironically the doctors who examined him now run their on clinic in London as result and we attend that clinic for check ups! What I would say to this woman who seems to have nothing better to do than upset and worry all ready worried parents, is that she should take more care in throwing around her opinions and do her research properly like a responsible person. I think that the many testimonies speak for themselves about how good Ponseti's technique is. If he were in England he should get an OBE or something great from the Queen for his amazing and tireless work. > I think the email questioning Ponseti treatment below is indicative of > a > level of ignorance in the treatment and of Talipes in general. Guest guest
We had our son at the 3rd Ponseti conference in Manchetser last week and he was examined by Dr Dietz from Iowa - great experience and good to meet up with other parents again - we always seem to have so much in common with other parents with Ponseti treated kids, they understand what we go through better than friends or family. Good to hear from you. Philip Just info from another email > > > > Just wanted to let everyone in this group read this. Guest guest
Philip, Dr Dietz is great isn't he? we are still under Haemish Crawford in New Zealand who was over for the 2nd conference last year and may be back this year. Henry just had to have further surgery due to a relapse in his right foot. The left is still fine. He had a tendon transfer and had to have his heel cord done again - that was the most painful part for him. But now only a few weeks after his cast was taken off he is running around as though nothing had happened! Children are amazing. This web site has been a huge support for us as a family and yes everyone understands better than your closest friends and family just how you feel. It is also nice to offer help and hope to other parents. I hope your son continues to do well. How old is he? Is he still in boots? Henry had his taken off early as he is termed " loose limbed " and at the time Ponseti was doing this to avoid over correction. However sadly he had the relapse in one foot, but as we discovered what suits one child is not always right for another. After some studies of clinics Ponseti is now keeping the boots on much longer, even if the child is loose limbed. We still feel lucky though as he did not relapse in both feet. > > > We had our son at the 3rd Ponseti conference in Manchetser last week > and he > was examined by Dr Dietz from Iowa - great experience and good to meet > up > with other parents again - we always seem to have so much in common > with > other parents with Ponseti treated kids, they understand what we go > through > better than friends or family. > > Good to hear from you. > > Philip > > Just info from another email >> >> >> >> Just wanted to let everyone in this group read this.
