My son has never kicked his shoes off - ever. Now he is older he just takes

them off when he wakes up but he can't just kick them off. Are you making

sure that the heel is right down? Now my son is older I actually don't

buckle as tight as I used to because he started getting red marks on top of

his feet. Are the shoes too big?? Connor is absolutely no good with shoes

that are too big. He wakes all night with them and in the end I had to get a

smaller size and he was then fine.

Hi y'all,

Baby , once the " hysterical baby in shoes " and now the smiling

and cooing baby in shoes, is kicking out of her shoes ALL DAY LONG. I

am NOT exaggerating. It's usually her club foot (9/10 of the time)

that is coming out. She's not even really fussing when or before it

comes out. I'm sure those of you who are reading this immediately are

thinking that her foot is not corrected, but it is (Ponseti doctor

confirmed)! For those of you who have been this far with the DBB, does

this just happen when they get strong enough to kick out of them?

She's been so content in them for about two months (I never thought

that would happen by the way). Her feet are not chubbing up the way I

expected them to, I guess because of the shoes and casts... Could it

be a sizing issue even though we've had months in the shoes with no

problems? I'm retying/buckling OVER a dozen times a day now. Is this

normal?

Glad to hear that is happy baby in shoes. I would say that you

need to make sure the heel is seated and nestled in the back of the

shoe, then tighten the strap. Some parents have even taken the

insert off the strap so that the strap would fit tighter. Then

tighten the strap, since she has been in the shoes for a while-the

leather may have stretched so you may need to go to a tighter hole.

Once you have it as tight as humanly possible-lace the shoes-tight!!

Then double check the strap to see if it can be tightened anymore.

My bet is that the leather has stretched and she needs a tighter

hole.

Hope this helps!

Hi-

The company that provided us with the FAB shoes put a fitted piece- possibly

mole skin around the inner top of the ankle at the top of the back of the boot

(if that makes sense, right by the heel cord area) he said that it was to help

from kicking the shoes off. Call them and see if they can do something like

that.

Is it a new pair that is larger? Are you sure the straps are tight enough? I ask

because they are leather and do get stretched out. We have gone from hole #4 to

hole #7 in 3 months (you'd think as they grow they would need loosened, not

tightened - but the leather stretches). Ummmm, that's all I can think of right

now.

Thanks for the ideas... A couple of people mentioned the straps

stretching - I think that's it. I'm just nervous to make them too

tight - we fought through months of blisters and it was awful. I

just don't want to repeat that. She started at hole #6 and now I'm

almost at hole #8! I guess I was anticipating her foot getting

fatter quicker and the shoes seeming smaller rather than larger. We

do have the moleskin in (that was done after the blisters appeared).

You may also want to have the length of the bar checked. If it is

too short, that may be part of the problem too.

If she's slipping because they're too loose, that's when you could

get more blisters. I'd be less concerned about tightening them too

much in this case than them being too loose and the friction from

slipping causing blisters. I do think the standard rule of thumb

that you can't tighten them too much would still hold true

here. Tightness isn't typically blamed for sores so try tightening

them up really really tight even if you think it's too tight. She'll

tell you if they're hurting her because they're too tight I would think.

Same problem with our 6 months old Ty. We've just got the shoe fixed

by adding the plastizode (a piece of hard sponge behind the ankle) and

it seems to help. Also the orthotist told us that it may be because

the shoes become too small to hold his feet properly. You can find a

picture of plastizode in Files>FAB folder or follow the link here.

Hi,

These Houdini babies aren¹t they clever!! Below are some ideas in case you

haven¹t tried them yet...

Just a thought when putting the shoes on are her toes curled up Jasper

used to do this and then they would be loose once he relaxed his food and he

could get out of them! Also, do you pull the tongue of the shoe up to the

ankle so that the strap is in the Œbest fit¹ spot for her? (We found that

this spot changes as their little feet grow, but the place where the strap

feels really snug is the one), also the hole where the strap goes through

the shoe may need to be adjusted to/from the upper to the lower. One last

idea take the laces out and open the shoe right up and place her foot in

the shoe (if you can keep it still) and check that her little foot is

fitting into the base of the shoe properly that it looks snug on the

sides, heel and note where it sits for the toes (the old, draw a mark for

the toes so that you can realign when relaced is always a goodie), there

were times as Jasper¹s feet grew when he would fit differently into the

shoe. If worst comes to worst you may have to try a different style or size

of shoe (such as the mitchell¹s), as her feet may be better suited to a

different system or size.

Goodluck!

Tamsin

Hi again,

One last thought which relates to ¹s mentioning of moleskin if the

shoes are the older model, the inside of the back of the shoe wont have any

shaping piece for the heel to stay down, and if her heels aren¹t descended

they will tend to slip out our orthotist put a little piece of dense foam

in the back (the spot just under the top back of the shoe) to keep Jasper¹s

feet in when he was the same age (5 mo) and to help encourage his heels. The

newer model of shoe has this as a little pillow of leather in the stitching.

(I hope I explained this properly)

Racheal, I know how you feel. My son is 13 months and after the initial month

we haven't had any problems at all with his shoes now all the sudden he's

getting red marks on his left foot and constantly pulling his right foot out of

the shoe. UGGHHHHH!!! Just when things are going great these shoes catch you

off guard. Usually it's always first thing in the morning and the shoe is on

tight heel down (foot is fully corrected) and I don't know how he's pulling it

out??!!!

It kinda scares me because a couple of mornings ago he had a puffy red mark up

the back of his leg and back from the bolt. I need to make a bigger cover. Not

sure what we're going to do about that just yet. Anyway, enough about us I just

wanted to let you know I understand your frustration.

sure that the heel is right down?

Is this

normal?
