Guest guest
I would like to know how long it took any of you to start working out. Also if anyone belongs to a gym did you have a personal trainer. If you did use a personal trainer would you mind letting me know what it cost? Also where it was. I belong to 24 hr fitness and I'm thinking that once I have my surgery I would like a trainer to help me. I thought I would ask all of my fellow travelers what they have done. Thank you

Guest guest
I started walking 1 mile at 6 weeks out. I was exhausted at the end of that mile too. O lordy i thought i would have to crawl to my car. But by the end of the week i added a quarter of a mile. The next week i added another quarter of a mile. At 8 weeks out i went up to our local gym and did the treadmill for 20 min, the eliptical for 5 min, the bike for 5 min then worked my way around all the nautlis machines for 20 min. I did that 4 days a week. Now that i have returned back to the working world i havent been able to put my workout back into my schedule. Thats something i am going to HAVE To do. Just have to make my mind up to do it. sheryll in oklahoma 273/203/145ish 7/20/05 dr clark san diego LP rny > > I would like to know how long it took any of you to start working out. > Also if anyone belongs to a gym did you have a personal trainer. Guest guest
Hi, ! I'm pre-op (orientation scheduled for NEXT WEEK - woohoo!) and I'm working out already. I've started aquatic aerobics at the YMCA 3-4 times a week. Because of knee/heel problems, I don't have the range of motion necessary to use most of the other equipment and machines, although I expect that I'll eventually be back to using it once I lose enough weight post-op. The Y is a really economical gym solution for me, although it may not work for everyone. The family membership is $76/month, and my husband and kids get access as well. You pay extra for some of the classes, but since our main use is the pools and the gym equipment we find it works out well for us. Teens can go on their own, so my 14-year-old can go and work out on her schedule, which is great. They do have personal trainers available and I *think* members can schedule up to 4 training sessions free, and more at a reasonable cost. You should check on this with your local Y, though, since it may vary by location (we're in San ). Guest guest
You should get the ok from your surgeon to go back to the gym. Usually it is 6 weeks to go back to the gym. I did mostly walking. Once the scabs fell off I did water walking because that burns more calories. Ramona

Guest guest
I walked only until I was 3 months post op, then I started doing crunches, lifting small weights for my arms, doing all my stretches, some running on the treadmill. Hope this helps, take care. Donna wrote: I would like to know how long it took any of you to start working out. Also if anyone belongs to a gym did you have a personal trainer.
