Guest guest
It has been an interesting jouney - I am finding out every day what I can tolerate and what I can not; example - I had a small bite of bannana this morning and it is just sitting there in my throat. Let me start from the beginning - I had my surgery Nov 14 and to-date have lost 49 lbs (wishing it was more and wondering if it should be). Dr. Fisher Richmond is my doctor. My surgery went great I have little to complain about - My only down fall is I get tired quickly. Just last week I did some shopping, came home a just did a little housework - vacumm & mop my floors, took a shower to get ready for work and I felt like someone just sucked all my energy right out of my body. Instead of work I went to bed. Is this normal??????? I hate breakfast which is odd for me because it used to be my favorite meal of the day - I am thinking of doing the no no and get a protein drink. If anyone knows of a good drink on the market please post. To the new members - Welcome - this is a good group and you will get mega support as you go thru this jouney and life changing events. Guest guest
I really like the Pure Whey Stack chocolate flavor. Second choice is the banana. I do NOT like the vanilla or strawberry. If you do decide to add protein drinks to your regimen (and I'm a firm believer in them personally), make sure you don't add a bunch of sugar to them. This means no milk and no fruit. I make mine blended with water and ice. I also recommend getting a bunch of samples and experimenting. Vary the amount of water, the temperature, blending or shaking, ice or not, etc. Also be aware that your tastes may change. The best source I have found for samples is www.vitalady.com, which happens to be where I get all my supplements. The samples sold there are each good for about 30 grams of protein, in a readily absorbable form and cost $1.99 each. Guest guest
My protein drink of choice (recommended by my surgeon) is Pro Complex. It comes in Chocolate, Vanilla & Strawberry, and I think in Rocky Road flavor. It is very well fortified in vitams & Minerals and give you 55 grams of protein in a 2 scoop serving. I mix mine in a blender or with a hand blender with 8 ounces of nonfat milk, sometimes nonfat Carb Control (Low carbohydrate) milk. Often I also add a tablespoon or 2 of ground flax seed or bran to give me a little added fiber. You can also add DaVinci sugar free syrups to boost the flavor or a small amount of fruit. As far as you being tired, you may be healing still, but it is also a good idea to make sure your doctors are checking your vitamin levels in your blood to check your absorbtion. WLS can cause us to not absorb all our nutrients & vitamins as effecintly as we did before surgery. --Sandi H. > > It has been an interesting jouney - I am finding out every day what I can tolerate and what I can not; example - I had a small bite of bannana this morning and it is just sitting there in my throat. > > Let me start from the beginning - I had my surgery Nov 14 and to- date have lost 49 lbs (wishing it was more and wondering if it should be). Guest guest
Lucia This is normal, I was getting still real tired at 5 months post op and Dr Baggs says it gets less as you go but that some people can still get tired up to a year. He did say 6 months is average and this is without Anemia. I did become Anemic in my 7th month, but was okay by my 9th month, I'm almost 10 months in a week and a half and I finally do not get tired so much. Hope this helps, take care.
