Guest guest
Hi there I have a question for those of you that have children in the new brace from Dr. Dobbs. My daughter just got her new brace a few weeks ago. She has had the articulating bar for quite some time, and the old brace was with the Markell shoes. This new brace is like an AFO attached to the articulating brace. The AFO had three straps of velcro across the foot. My question is do any of your children get out of their brace? I love that it is easy to put on, and since it is custom fitted it keeps her foot in the correct position, but I cannot get her to keep them on. She's out of them in 2 minutes. Does anyone have any tips? I have thought about using safety pins through the velcro, but I am afraid she would be able to get them undone. Any advice would b appreciated. Guest guest
amy... our daughter's are 2 days apart... that's neat... grace went through a phase for a few days that she would take hers off also... but i just kept firmly telling her no and put them back on and it only lasted 3-4 days... i also bought some socks at the Gap that were very long and i pulled them up to her knee and after i got the braces on i turned the socks down over the brace.. it covers the top strap and that seemed to knick it in the bud... (is that the correct phrase? lol ) but i did just keep telling her firmly that she wasn't allowed to take them off... hth... mommy to Grace 12-03-03 BCF Dobb's Brace 14/7 --- Amy Shull wrote: > Hi there > I have a question for those of you that have > children in the new brace > from Dr. Dobbs. Guest guest
Hi Amy, I'm not sure if anyone has responded yet. I did forward this post to another clubfoot site for you hoping they may have some AFO type tips to share with you. Collin was in AFO's and KAFO's when he was little. I use to buy little girl knee socks and put them on, put the AFO on then pull the sock back down over the velcro since it was so long. My husband use to drill a few holes in the bottom of it too, to help his feet from sweating so much. Also they use to sew an extra piece onto the AFO strap to trick him so when he pulled it, it was the wrong thing he was pulling on. If you want I'll try to find one and e- mail you the photo of how they did it. Eventually he did figure that out too. How is the Dobb's brace working for her, I wonder if we could try it for Collin? I think he is beyond it (needing help wise) but it is always a question to ask. Is Dr. Dobb's the only doctor who prescribes this or can I go to any doctor and ask about it? If we could do recasting again then the Dobb's brace maybe that will help, I just don't know??? Michele
Guest guest
Amy, Sorry I'm behind in reading, I just saw your question. Just curious why he put Gwyneth in the AFO style shoe. We liked them, but had a little bit of trouble with Sammy's foot slipping out at daycare if they didn't do the straps tight enought (he was too little to *take* them off at the time but he sure could figure out how to get his foot to slide out). We have since switched back to Markells attached to the articulating bar. If you weren't having trouble with the Markells I wonder why he switched you? If your brace is similar to ours, you should be able to attach Markell's to it with the same sole plate as is used with the traditional fixed gold bar. Let me know how it is going. > Hi there > I have a question for those of you that have children in the new brace > from Dr. Dobbs.
