Yeah Sue! You've made an excellent decision, you will be so happy

with Dr. Dobbs!

> Thank you for all of your kind advise. We have made an appt. w/ Dr.

Dobbs in St. Louis. It will be a 14+ hour drive with plus 4

other kids, but I know it will be worth it. Actually, we had planned

to be in Missouri that week/weekend anyway.

Is this 14 hours one way? Wow! We drive four hours one way, but Dr.

Dobbs is worth every mile! He is great, you'll love him. We've been

seeing him for nearly four years now. I can't believe it's been that

long.

Where are you from? Where do you plan to stay while in town? We

stay at a Holiday Inn Viking that has a reduced rate for Shriner's

Hospital. There is also a Mc House there I believe, but

I don't know much about it. When will you be making the drive?!

Have a safe trip!

We'll be coming in from the Houston, Tx area. We didn't know where

to stay. Thanks for the tip on the Holiday Inn. I don't think 5

kiddos would work well at the Mc House. Our appt. is

for 7/11 first thing in the morning. I'm excited. Will be

cast on the first visit, or is it more of a consultation?

Thanks again for all of your encouragement.

Take advantage of the Mc house if possible... It's 15 dollars a

night. The staff are usually so helpful and friendly. Other than not having TVs

in the rooms, the rooms are usually really nice... and of course, in the common

areas you have all the amenities of home.

I only mention the tv thing because I hated that I had to venture out to the

common areas to keep Gabe entertained when he had casts, before he was

crawling. The rroms are nice, but spare... If you don't carry tons of toys, you

all wind up staring at each other for hours. They do it so you have to mingle

with the other guests, but I found neither I or Gabe was much in the mood for

much mingling during our stays. Gabe hates casting and is quite uncivilized when

having to endure them.

Sue,

So glad you are going! I know you'll never regret making the trip.

I wanted to mention that your number of kids is actually fine for the

Mc House.. it's totally geared to families. They have

suites for families.. check out the pictures:

http://www.uihealthcare.com/depts/ronaldmcdonald/gallery.html

There's a playroom with toys, a playground/playset in the back yard.

Just passing it along. We have usually stayed in a hotel because of

only being there one night at a time.. but we have stayed at the

house once. If you do stay in a hotel, be sure to mention that you

are in town for a medical appointment and ask for a hospital rate. It

makes quite a difference.

Here's a link to info on hotels in the area:

http://www.icccvb.org/wheretostay.asp

Here's info on traveling there for appts from the VH site if you

haven't seen it already:

http://www.vh.org/pediatric/patient/orthopaedics/clubfeet/travel.html

Best of luck!

Sue, I am really glad you are making the trip. Although I have not

got to read all your posts about your son we wish you the best and I

know you will never regret going. We too are from Tx, a little small

town called Plainview(in between Amarillo and Lubbock) and we

traveled from here to Iowa to see Dr.Ponseti in December. It was a

16 almost 17hr drive but it was soooo worth it! Dr.Ponseti told me

that if we could not make it to him to go to Dr.Dobbs(the next best

thing to him so I've heard). So you are in really good hands! Will

you be driving? I would check out the Mc House. We

stayed there when we went in December. It is really nice everyone is

so nice and friendly you feel right at home.

Just wanted to let you know that your not the only whose traveled

lots and lots of miles to see a Ponseti dr. I know it is scary but

so worth it. I wish you all a safe trip!!

Oops, my mistake.. sorry!

Maybe the info will help someone, at least, thinking of going to Iowa!
