Guest guest
Hi Naomi ds is 5 months old. We're seeing Dr. Dobbs so I'm confident that he is using the Ponseti method. Perhaps I am using incorrect terms. Ds has a plastic boot on his foot which is then placed in a larger boot connected to the bar. The mark is on his unaffected foot. Thanks Sue > ds just went into his AFO on Monday and he is miserable. He already > has a reddish/purple mark on the back of one heel. Guest guest
Sue, You are using the right terms, just most people here are used to the AFO's that some docs prescribe that are not connected to the bar and do not hold the foot in the proper position. The brace that Dr. Dobbs is using should not cause these sores - that was the whole reason he designed it in the first place. If your son has sores and is slipping out of the brace I would say there is something wrong with the fit. You should contact Dr. Dobbs or the orthotics shop right away. Do you go to Children's hospital? The brace shop there is O & P, Inc., talk to Dave Osterman, Jr. . If the sore is dark purple this is a pressure sore and can lead to an open sore as ee mentioned in her reply. These sores can be really nasty and leave permanent scars, you will want to get this resolved before that skin starts breaking down. If they have to re-mold for the brace it is possible that Dr. Dobbs might want to re-cast your son while the new brace is being made in order to avoid the foot relapsing while you wait for the new brace. I just can't imagine what would be causing a pressure sore in these shoes, but I would be very firm with them that you want this resolved right away so you are not struggling with this over the weekend. Please feel free to email me directly at jagrindon@... if you have other questions or have any further trouble. Guest guest
Sue, Oh. Good. You are in the best of hands with Dr Dobbs. He has developped a new type of FAB that uses AFOs insetad of the shoes most of us here use (we call it the Dobbs' Brace). People seem to really love this new FAB and I haven't heard of any major problems associated with it. Hopefully someone who has dealt with it more can give you some pointers! Perhaps you could re-post your message with " Dobbs Brace " in the subject line to get the attention of folks who are using it. Guest guest
Sue, Just wanted to check on you -- did you get things with the brace resolved? I am still disturbed by the pressure marks - to my knowledge Dr. Dobbs has not had any problems with babies getting sores or blisters since he started using the AFO style FAB. Please let me know if you need anything; I can try to reach Dr. Dobbs directly if you aren't getting the help you need. > > > ds just went into his AFO on Monday and he is miserable.
