Guest guest
How long does your doctor plan to keep you on the flagyl. What made them think to prescribe it. I too suffer from the problem and would like to have some more information before I speak with my doctor about it. Thanks. Amie > > > I am enjoying DAY THREE of no gas!! Guest guest
No, Flagyl is prescription. I am to take 500 mg. 3 time a day for 5 days; then 2 times a day for 5 days, then once a day from then on. It's been a miracle for me. B.>>>>> , do you take them for the rest of your life or what? you said at the end....once a day from then on.....for how long? And how much did the pharmacy charge you? Guest guest
Dr mentioned it during a chat w/some of his patients, and I wrote and asked for details.. It worked just as well for me as it did for .. Then I talked to the medical director of the LifeShape Clinic (Dr. Booth), and he said that the flagyl works by killing the overgrowth of gas-producing bacteria that can occur when you have any intestinal surgery (not just the DS) if the bowel flora gets out of whack. Dr. does it slightly differently from Dr Booth, but both have you on a therapeutic dose (500 mg every 8 hours), then put you on maintenance of 1 dose daily, but Dr says do 5 days of every 8 hours, then 5 days of every twelve hours, then daily.. and Dr. Booth says every 8 hours for 7 days, then 1 daily. Both ways have worked- but don't stop it too soon- take it the full number of days your doctor tells you to take before going to maintenance. hope this helps- Hugs, Liane > > > > I am enjoying DAY THREE of no gas!! Guest guest
Robin, Dr Welker prescribes it when the horrid smell is out of control. Its only for 5 days and then another 5 days of maintainence and then nothing more unless it gets out of control again. He says to eat acidophylis along with it to rebuild the colony of good bacteria. Some people just have it really bad and need some help along the way..... Guest guest
Is Flagyl even safe? I ask because I remember reading somewhere that it was only prescribed for the hardiest of STDs. Course I was reading some questionable material, I spose... But I question its safety for things of this nature, not to rock the boat or anything, but worth investigating. Guest guest
Flagyl is like any other antibiotic-- it has great anti-bacterial properties against organisms which are sensitive to it and it can also have unpleasant or annoying side-effects in certain individuals. And a very few folks can be allergic to it and have anaphylactic reactions. That is the reason that it isn't over the counter but must be prescribed by a physician. It is often prescribed for antibiotic-induced colitis-- I took it once when I got that condition after having been on antibiotics for three weeks for a persistent sinus infection that just wouldn't clear up. -- Joy Frost > Is Flagyl even safe? > > I ask because I remember reading somewhere that it was only > prescribed for the hardiest of STDs.
