Guest guest
Ruth, My vote is for " Purple People Eater " ...then you can just run down anyone that gets in your way and say your Purple People Eater was hungry! Okay, I know, corny! I have actually been thinking about getting one of these vehicles. How do you feel it is better than a regular walker? I would love to hear your opinion so I can weigh my options. Thanks, Have fun and don't hurt anyone with your new toy! in UT > > Well, I have a new vehicle..its a purple Rollator...it is a rolling > walker with a place you can actually sit down on. Guest guest
you know, Ruth, you might look at your "rollasitter" differently. About 2 years ago I was considering getting one. My neuro gave me a prescription, so that Medicare would cover it. Before getting it, I borrowed a friend's to use when Sam & I went to Graceland in Memphis. It really wasn't what I needed. It was nice to have a place to sit down, especially waiting for shuttles, etc., but I still needed to elevate my feet, so I'd be looking for a rock or something to park by. I decided it would be too much commotion to take the walker, my big water jug, purse or tote bag, plus a folding stool! But i'd have gotten one in a minute if it would have worked out. Likewise, I didn't see getting a scooter as a defeat, but as a way to do things I'd been missing out on. I know how you feel about circling the drain, but having tools like the walker or scooter actually keep us from being sucked down. Our emotional & mental state is so critical to our health, and anything that helps us get out & do things with our family, activities we'd been missing out on, just walking around our yard, gives us an emotional boost. If I hadn't bought my used scooter this year, I wouldn't have been able to go to the State Fair 3 times with various combinations of family members! So, please try to look at your "Plurple" (my combo of plop & purple) as a good thing. Put some streamers on it or stickers! Then send us a picture! It should be a rollasiter And yes it is actually purple! My daughter said we could just paint some red strips on it and I'd be right in style for Red Hat days! But it sure helps with my unsteady gait and my knee pain. I used it to walk around the yard tonight and didn't have to worry about stumbling and falling. Guest guest
Ruth, First of all I am jealous. I have seen the purple one and I really like it. I am not quite ready for one but I can tell you, if I do, it will be purple. Second, please do not name it Barney. I can't stand that silly dinosaur. My husband's cousins son used to have a speach impediment and he would always sing I wuy u, u uv ee -- You can see where I am going. I tease him about it now but it drove me crazy then. I really am glad that you got it though. Don't you wish you could get some streamers for the handle bars that we used to get when we were kids, or that it had spoke wheels so you could put a playing card on it to make lots of noise? How about a banana seat? Just kidding. Just a little trip down memory lane. Enjoy your new toy! Guest guest
Ruth, Hey girl if it helps I am all for it, I told my husband I was going to ask for a handicap parking sticker, I hate it when I have to park way out in the lot, by the time I get to the store I am too tired to stay and shop! Something still on my mind, I think you will find it to be a blessing your “Purple People Eater” my vote. Guest guest
OH so true, I was in Calif. A couple weeks ago for a family reunion and then stayed a few days with my friend since 6th grade, she is an RN for Blue Cross Blue Shield, and drives all over to the hospitals you know the ones that are saying kick her out J any my point, she parks way out, new car and all, so by the time we reached the mall I was ready to turn around but we wanted to shop together, then I said hey slow down I can’t walk as fast as I use to, and she said well we don’t have all day you know, like you said you never see what isn’t in front of our faces, so I just let her stop and wait for me to catch up! I will see how I do for awhile. Guest guest
Hello everyone-- First I wanted to say thanks to everyone for your advise about telling my children. I think they'll be ok--they're just a little angry at what we've been dealt. I agree--get the handicap card!! I had one for when my mother was with me and it's great to use on days my legs are numb, etc. I also swallowed my pride and started using wheelchairs and scooters at walmart, fairs, etc. shopping is much less exhausting that way. hope to meet a lot of you in Indy--god bless!!
