Guest guest
Had my first cataract surgery, everyone including my husband has told me how easy it was. For me there were area's that I was not to happy about. Fisrt of all they were extremely rushed. I went to the most noted eye surgeon in the area. She does all her cataracts on a friday. When I got to the presurgery room, they started my IV and put in some dropts. The Nurse Anesthetist came back and spent 30 seconds with me. When they brought me into the OR it appeared that they had two surgery rooms and the Surgeon and Nurse Anestasist would move from room to room. So I was brought to a surgery room where the scrub nurse and someone else were talking about were they could call their lunch order in, as the place must deliver and accept american express.Forget about me I'm just the next victim. They had me connected to pulse ox and everyonce in a while they would stop talking and yell for me to take a deep breath, I told them I was doing that already but it didn't appear they were interested. When I went for my surgery consult I told them I was claustrophobic. They told me they would give me some meds before they draped my face. That was a joke, as the werre draping my eye they said ph yah she's claustrobic so the nurse anesthatist sopposidly gave me 1 mg of IV Versed. I question the validity because what he did give me did nothing. I was totally awake the whole time with no memory loss. When the surgeon put in the spring loaded eye retractor it really hurt probably because of my ever so dry eyes. She kept telling me to hold my eye still while she was operating. I was not aware that I was moving it but I tried my best to not move it. Once she told somemore tetracaine which I think is the eye numbing stuff. Well I felt most of what they were doing, but who cared I was only their to get the cataract out so who cared. All I heard from the nurses who sounded really pissed is that they were 40 minutes behind schedule. I'm sure they must have made up a bunch on my surgery. I unfortunately was OS#2 and not Judy, God forbid they should treat me like they cared. Now last night I went to sleep about 10, but TV addict Bob woke up in an angry mood. Said don't you realize we only had four hours sleep last night. I just looked at him and said Well I went to sleep at ten so you must have stayed up to watch TV. Of course he had, by adding his complaint hours he didn't get to bed until after 2 and of course it was all my fault, He stayed in a crabby mood when we got to the surgery center, I asked him why he was still so upset, of course he gave me " l'm just worried about you now " . I told him for sake to quit worrying about me so they I came at least have a little peace before my surgery as his attitude was very upsetting. We got home and he immediately went to sleep in his lounge chair, God forbid that he could at least pamper me as I did for him after each of his cataract operations last month. Thank God I have you guys to let it al out to or I would be in the nut house. Cuz right now I am not in a to great mood. Needless to say it is now six thirty, he's sound asleep and supper isn't even started. Only good news is that I saw the infectious disease doctor and she gave me the OK for the remacaide. Now if I could only find a fheumatologist who would give it to me. So if I get two down I may post again later. Hope your day is going much better than mine.
