Guest guest
Hi everyone. I just wanted to share this story and would appreciate any input. I went to a lap specialist of hernias and gall bladder. I have a hernia above and to the left of my belly button. When I spoke to Dr. Herron about it he said to wait until I lost all of my weight. I always want a 2nd opinion so I did go this past Friday. I was told that the mesh that they use is very strong and would be a substantial size. I was also told that the way the mesh stays in is through scar tissue and that it can adhere to the intestines. If in the future I needed any abdominal surgery(gall bladder removal, stomach, intestines, appendiz, etc.) the mesh would make it a very tough surgery. I was told if I don't have any symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, fever, the area turns red or terrible stomach cramping then I must have it done. But, I was a little freaked about the mesh and the possibility of a VERY HARD TIME IF i NEEDED ANOTHER SURGERY. aNY COMMENTS? aND THANKS TO ALL OF YOU. eLLEN(pAM

Guest guest
Wow, Ellen, This is the first I have heard of the problems with the mesh, but it makes perfect sense. I had an umbilical hernia repaired with my DS. No mesh was used, which makes it more likely to return at some point (okay with me, as it would assure coverage for my panni). How big is your hernia?
