Guest guest
Hi everyone! It's again. I first want to thank everyone for their support on my post yesterday. I'm drinking more water and started exercising more... i WILL get this 10% off! I'm interested in knowing, from those of you who have already had the surgery with Kaiser: 1. I understand Kaiser will schedule my surgery when I'm within ten pounds of my 10% weight loss. How long out will the surgery be scheduled once I'm within that 10 pounds? For example, if I call them tomorrow and said I have ten more pounds to lose, will it be another 5 months before I get a date? (Of course, I realize I must lose that 10 pounds or the surgery won't be performed. I'm just curious how long after I'm at goal I will be scheduled. At this point, I'm anxious and excited!) 2. How long was your stay in the hospital for laproscopic RNY? 3. I feel a lot of anxiety, as I'm sure a lot of you did. How long after the surgery will I be unable to move about and/or in a lot of pain? I know it is worth it, but it's still scary when you're a pre- op! Thanks SO much!! Guest guest
Hi - I just had my surgery 8 days ago in Fremont. It was about 2 1/2 months after I had lost all my weight that they gave me a date. Make sure that you don't gain any of the weight back. Stay and track...watch your food, drink your water and excerise. As for my hospital stay, I went in on Monday at 6:30am and was on my way home by 11:30am on Wednesday. They had me up and walking around the hospital by Monday night. I have been walking around the house and outside since day one at home. Yesterday I walked to my church which is about 5 blocks away. Today my goal is walking to church and BACK. I can't say I had a lot of anxiety. I have a very strong faith and that where I laid my worries. I knew I had done the research, studied all I could and had the world of confidence in my surgeon. Now it was in God's hands. You asked about the pain? I have a very high pain level and have not used anything since I have been home, not even a Tylenol. It is a little uncomfortable but I wouldn't say painful. And everyday it gets better and better. If I had to (and I don't) I could go back to work only two weeks after surgery but I will be home a full 4 weeks. I hope I haven't rambled on too much and have answered your questions. If you would like to know more, just ask. PEGGY > > Hi everyone! > > It's again. I first want to thank everyone for their support > on my post yesterday. Guest guest
I had my surgery 10/3/05 at Fremont. By June I had met my 10% within 5 lbs. It was a 5 lb difference from your 10 % with Fremont. They could not get me into my last psych until 8/11/05 which in turn meant I could not get on the September calendar because my last appt was not journaled. I then got on the October calendar. It was very hard for me to maintain my 10% loss but I did it. I was checked in at the hospital by 6:30 am for my 8: 00 am surgery. I was scheduled for lap but ended up being a lap/open due to lack of communication from my anesthesiologist. I was still released on Wednesday by about 3 pm. I went back to work exactly 4 weeks later on 11/3/05. I was nervous as could be even though I had researched, was confident in my decision, had gotten myself as healthy as possible I was a wreck. All I thought to myself was that if I die what a selfish way to go. Now, after surgery and having complications I think it was not a selfish decision I just prolonged my life what could be better for me, my kids, and my family. Once it is over the timeline doesnt not seem so bad for me from my first visit to my pcp 8/5/04 to surgery 10/3/05 It was almost 14 months to the date. Guest guest
Hi : I had my surgery on November 30 at Richmond, where they will not schedule you a date until you have lost the total 10% ( and they must weigh you to confirm this)....Once I had my meeting with the case manager, a few weeks after I reached my 10%, I was given my surgery date and all final pre-op appointments were scheduled...At this October 25 meeting I was offered a surgery date of 11/16, but I requested to delay for work reasons...I went into the hospital on Wednesday and went home the next morning. (Had it Lap)....Not much pain and I only took the pain medication once. You will be up and walking very fast and I was also able to sleep in my bed after the first night home. I took 4 weeks off work, but I know people who have returned to work after a few weeks. I was nervous too, but I knew this surgery would help my health improve so I would be able to live a long healthy life and watch my grandchildren growup...I know I am very happy with my decision to start this journey! Pam Orientation: 365.5 lbs Surgery Date: 303 lbs Today's Weight: 254 lbs Goal: ??? Guest guest
, Gee... I haven't posted here in AGES... like... last spring... I had my surgery (lap rny) at SSF on June 16 - I guess Dr Stiles thought I was well prepared for surgery as she pushed me right through (3 weeks after orientation) and accepted my starting weight from a documented January appt with my PCP in Sacramento - 225 - my orientation weight was 205 - day of surgery weight 201 - a little over 10% difference. This leads me to believe it depends on the facility, staff and your particular situation. I had an afternoon surgery - so was " in " for 2 nights. The lady who had surgery the same morning (alsy by Dr. Gorrin)went home after 1 night - so it worked out to be about 1 1/2 days kinda sorta... Anxiety is normal - as it should/would be with any invasive procedure - but this surgery is GENERALLY SPEAKING a piece of cake (understanding that EVERYONE is different!). The important thing is to get your fanny out of bed as soon as you can and get walking! You'll feel better sooner! I was up probably 6 hours after my surgery and then all night long every couple of hours walking - breathing and walking. My tummy was sore - but not unmanagable. I stopped the " love button " (morphine drip) when I started walking - had 2 more shots of something for pain the first night then that was it. I used my lortab at home (liquid vicodin) the first few nights to help me sleep but that was it. I am now 8 months out from surgery - I'd do it again in a heartbeat - it's not for everyone - but it was the right decision for me! Good luck to you, Girl! Be fastideous about following every single direction you're given and then some! It's all for a reason! Hugs! Marie 5 ft 2 in on a good day! 3/31/05 - 225 lbs - size 18-20 to 20-22.... 5/21/05 (orientation) 205 6/16/05 - (surgery day) 201 2/8/06 - 134 (minus 91 lbs!!!!!!) - size 8 pants - 10/12 tops!!!! I'm DONE!!!!!!! Use these boards for support - it's a great resourse!!! > > Hi everyone! > > It's again. I first want to thank everyone for their support > on my post yesterday.
