Hi,

I never had to eat baby food. I wouldn't even give my babies the

meats. They look and smell gross. How about some real soft foods

like tuna or chicken salads. I also made a salmon salad that I

really enjoyed. You can bake a soft piece of fish like flounder

filet and eat that too. I also had some canned soups like clam

chowder, Progressive lentil and 's split pea and Ham and Bean

and Bacon. You can puree any soup you like. Don't buy too much

stuff that is perishible as your tastes will change. My mom made a

large pot of chicken soup and pureed the whole thing. I couldn't

even look at it and I usually LOVE her chicken soup.

I would make sure that any paint odors are totally gone before you

get home. Alot of people become smell sensitive after surgery.

Especially, if you have any post-op nausea the paint smell just might

make you feel worse.

I didn't bring much to the hospital. I brought what you are planning

to bring. Make sure you have a check to pay for the TV and phone. I

didn't bring cash with me. Also, if you still menstruate and use

tampons, bring some. It seems that alot of women get their periods

right after surgery (I did) and hospitals only have those huge pads

that need pins. I used 2 of their gowns when I walked the halls.

I also had my waxing, pedicure, nails done and hair done 2 days

before surgery. It really made me feel so much better. At NYU they

didn't care if you wore nail polish on your hands or toes. Check

with your anesthesia dept.

Finally, I have PHS and I was approved within a few days. Good luck.

Sounds like things are moving right along for you! One suggestion...in

addition to the peri-bottle, I'd get a pair of toilet tongs or a wooden

spoon. I used the wooden spoon with a hole in the middle and wrapped the

toilet paper around it. It worked for the front area fine, however my

surgery sister told me the toilet tongs were wonderful for both areas and

very discreet. It comes in a little travel package. Let us know when you

get your approval. Good luck to you!

Now we're talkin'! I have never been able to talk about this with

another human being, but I feel safe to do so here. It is HORRIBLE

to experience it getting more and more difficult to " wipe " after

going to the bathroom! It is equally awful to not be able to

wash " down there " very well in the shower or bath. It is

humiliating. I haven't had to ask for assistance yet, but with the

way the weight is piling on I can imagine it getting there sooner

than I want to think about. What DO you do?! I've got to learn

about these toilet tongs. I imagine a soft sponge on a long handle

might help in the shower too... hadn't thought about that. Hopefully

I'll get the surgery soon and won't have to worry about this much

longer!

,

You can find the bathroom aides at Medque, http://www.medque.com/

You might have to look around to find them. I ended up using a slotted plastic spoon to help me. It worked pretty good, but I think the tongs might work better.
