sorry to heart about Zach. If you have not seen a pulmo, I think you really should. I am sure everytime he has another pneumonia it leaves some residual on his lungs. A good pulmo should be able to outline a course of action . Have you thought about having him put on antibiotics everyday to avoid major illness?

hang in there. he wil get better again.

regards,

rosy

I am so sorry to hear about Zach. I think going to a pulmonologist is a good

idea. Maybe they will know something that can help. My oldest daughter went to

one, years ago,,when her asthma was out of control.

You mentioned his blood sugar,,is he diabetic? I am wondering because they are

testing my daughter for diabetes.I am suposed to take her in for the 2 hour

fasting blood glucose test sometime this week,,but everything is going crazy

here,,and I haven't been able to get her up there.

Anyway,,,I hope Zach can get some relief soon.

Dr. wants to send him to an allergist and pulmonologist. He was wondering if his trachea could be flapping when it tries to take a breath and causing him to cough for air. Mostly at night. He kept us up at 3am w/ his coughing/asthma attack or what ever it may be. His breathing issues are scary.

, I am so sorry to hear that Zach is struggling, I know how difficult it is to see your child constantly sick. Your description of Zach's problems sound like what we have gone thru with Chelsea.

Does Zach have any swallowing issues, like aspiration? Chelsea is a severe aspirator, and her epiglottis is considered to be floppy. She should be having aspiration issues all the time, even 100% tube fed, but she only has real problems when ill. In the past year or so I have noticed her illnesses would start by her coughing all nite long. She would be so worn out by morning, that she would aspirate and get pneumonia. Last spring, she developed a lung lining infection after a series of pneumonias. I talked in detail about her issues with her pulm. and he felt the majority of the issue is asthma. The illness would trigger an asthma attack, she would cough all nite, and then aspirate. He changed her meds (for the 3rd or 4th time) to Pulmocourt (neb) 2x's day and increased her current antihistimine/decongestent. She also uses Albuterol when needed (neb), and nasal spray daily. Her coughing has improved since, and she has made it thru 2 illnesses in the past 2 months wothout the all nite coughing spells.

I would highly reccomend seeing a pulmonologist, if Zach hasn't already. Also an ENT to look at his tonsils and adenoids. WE were always told a T & A was too much of a risk, because of her aspiration issues. After she had to have one last summer, her breathing, especially at nite, has significantly improved. she used to have a lot of breathing issues at nite, but now she snore very little, but still has problems when ill or having a day day with hay fever. SHe also has tubes in her ears because she is prone to ear infections.

I hope you find some solutions to Zachs problems soon. Hopefully you can find some good drs, as they can make a big difference in treatment.
