Hello everyone--I am new to posting here but have been reading almost all the posts for several months. I am pre-op struggling to lose my 10%. Tomorrow I meet with my surgeon, Dr. Baggs who I have read so many good things about. I am very nervous and I wanted to know if we are supposed to bring our Food and Exercise Log with us to show him. I have not been very good at writing everything down. Also, who asks more questions, the surgeon or the patient? I feel I am very informed and very aware of the risks and the rewards of having this life changing surgery. I welcome any and all responses whether or not you had your surgery through Richmond. Thanks for your help.

Welcome and thanks for taking the opportunity to post finally. It's a

friendly bunch, which I'm sure you have gathered. I personally don't

have Dr. Baggs but I am going through Richmond. When I first met the

surgeon he asked how I was doing and what I had been doing so far since

starting the program. I just went into my diet and fitness routine. I

also mentioned about how I was ready to make these changesi n my life

and that I was young enough to really benefit from this surgery. I also

mentioned how I notice more things about my behaviors and I'm watching

myself change. I mentioned how I've been to the Lifestyle Classes, and

support group offered there through Richmond Kaiser. He then told me

some about the surgery, but by this point you should already know about

it from your reading and self education. But if not, ask questions. I

asked a million and one questions about the after effects, death, etc...

Don't be nervous, there is no right or wrong answer. Just be honest

about what you want and what your goals are. I've heard Dr. Baggs is

kinda short with people, sounds like that is his personality. But dont'

be turned off by that, everyone else in the program can assist you too

with questions.

Good Luck

Dr. Baggs is wonderful. He was extremely informative, very personable,

and I really liked him. This is a great time to get all of your

questions answered. I brought a list of questions and I also brought

my husband. My husband actually ended up asking most of the questions

(I had already researched for so long and watched both of my sisters

got through their WLS). He was great at reasurring my husband's fears

(death and stuff). He was wonderful! I didn't find him intimidating

(the way some doctors are) and he didn't seemed rush and in a hurry to

get you out of there.

I think you'll find Dr. Baggs to be fabulous. You are in GREAT hands!

I did not bring anything with me to

the appointment. I felt it was my time to ask questions, so I wrote

out a whole list of them...Better to write them out instead of forgetting

something....The surgeon also wants to make sure you know about the surgery

and your new lifestyle after the surgery. Don't worry, you will be

fine....I believe that since you have not lost your 10% yet, they will

probably refer you to a Lifesyles class soon after the consult, sometimes

they have guest speakers or play games at these...leads them. Once

the 10% is gone you will be moving fast to your surgery....Usually within

3-4 weeks....

Good Luck!
