Guest guest
Hello all, Shell, or the moderator that put me back on the list - Thank you... I dropped off the list in early October. It was at a time that there was a tragedy with someone who had recently had the procedure - and it scared me. The posts were also coming in at such a rate that there was no way I could keep track and distinguish between those that contained helpful info, and those that were more personal responses. It was overwhelming, so I removed myself from the list. I finally have a date of March 15th. It seems like it took soooo very long to get here. It's along story . I already feel like my life is lived based on the schedules of others. I was determined to have something that was a life changing event happen when i needed it to, on my schedule...not the case...but here I am. It's late, but I do have a few questions.... 1) I have my pre-op group on 2/17. Is there anything special I need for this? Is this when take the preop 'test'? 2) I know questions about protein powders have been asked and answered 1000 times, but here is 1001... Which protein from Trader Joes is the most beneficial? They have several different kinds and want to be sure I get the right one. I live about a block away from Traders Joes,, its the easiest for me to get too. 3) I just recently moved and live directly across from Westgate mall in San . Does anyone know of a WLS friendly gym in the area? Preferably on a main street...I go where VTA does.. Thanks all. I appreciate the help. I live about a block away from Traders >Joes,, its the easiest for me to get too. I've looked at Trader Joe's, and not found anything I would buy. I've found that the best shopping for me is through www.vitalady.com. I would advise reading labels CAREFULLY and do NOT trust anything a clerk tells you. Look for a whey protein, preferably powder (MUCH cheaper that way and you have more flexibility in preparation). My absolute favorite, which TJ's does not have, is Champion Nutrition's Pure Whey Stack in chocolate. I also like their banana, the cocoa mochachino is okay, and the vanilla and strawberry are vile. As an example of prices, I had to chase around San looking for a smaller (2.2 pound) canister to take with me on my recent trip. I finally found it at an exercise equipment store, and it cost $32.95. I usually buy five pound canisters for $27.99, but right now it's on sale for $26.49. Since I get all my supplements from there, and order in huge quantities at a time, I don't usually have a problem getting my order up to $300 which qualifies for free shipping. > 3) I just recently moved and live directly > across from Westgate mall in San . I live a couple of blocks from >Winchester and Hamilton! Maybe we can get >together for lunch or coffee at some point! Question - what constitutes a " WLS friendly gym " ? Since I live up by Winchester and s Creek, your answers would be really useful to me! For the most part right now I'm going to the YMCA. My husband and kids go to the one on Quito road, the Southwest Y, which has a decent weight room, aerobics equipment, a pool, etc., and a pretty good assortment of classes and programs. The 57 bus runs right down Quito, so it should be accessible for you. I actually use the Central Y more (downtown at Naglee and the Alameda), since it has water aerobics at better times for me, but they're both pretty good. I don't know if it would be to your liking, but there are also other gyms along Hamilton that should be bus-accessible. There are a couple of Curves (one right at Westgate, on Hamilton); and if you go down to Hamilton and Winchester there's a Gold's Gym. I've never been to either one, so I have NO idea at all what they're like. Good luck and happy exercising! Cathy
