Guest guest
Junior: Small milestone? Running 1/2 mile? THAT'S HUGE. When I started running, the freedom I felt was something akin to flying. The wind rushing past my face and through my hair, the warm kiss of the sun--what delight to not have pain and to feel liberation. It was like my wings had spread at long last, and in a leap of faith, like a young bird just out of its nest, I had achieved flight. That freedom is both scary and magical. The scary part is over, and now I " fly " all the time. Amazing, isn't it? When I was large, my world was so small. Now that I'm smaller, my world is so expansive with such a wide horizon, so lovely, so beautiful. May you continue to embrace your new life, taste its beauty and drink in its wonders. Francisco P.S. Guest guest
Thank you Francisco, I used to run approx 75 miles a week when I was young and thin (almost 20 yrs ago). I guess that is why 1/2 mile was not much but I was excited while it lasted. I felt light on my feet and I felt so alive. I remember how much I loved to run. My kids and I were talking about running on Friday because there is no school. So I will take the day off and we (three) will run together. I am so excited. My kids are very excited for me to be outside playing again with them. Imagine that. My kids are 14 and 11 yrs old and they are planning our run and wanting to run with me. I just can't believe it. I am now running again. big cheesy grin. manisodream wrote: Junior:Small milestone? Running 1/2 mile? THAT'S HUGE.When I started running, the freedom I felt was something akin to flying. Guest guest
I have to agree with Francisco, - it's huge! I've never been a runner - I started running when I was 18, and only weighed about 180 or so, but even then I had arthritis in my knees and my doctor told me I shouldn't run. My older daughter runs cross- country, and is quite athletic. We were talking the other day and she asked about how my knees would be after weight loss. I explained that even if I have a knee replacement I may not be able to run, but she said that even though she knows I probably won't ever be able to run with her she's looking forward to the day when I can simply go hiking and walking again with the rest of the family. So am I! So I understand about your excitement - CONGRATULATIONS! You're starting to fly again! Guest guest
I read all the postings from Francisco and the others that go running, I can not remember when I was able to run last. As I read some of these posting I actually got a little teary eyed. I never was much for running but I want to be able to do it. Now that I have the surgery (2 1/2 weeks post-op) I have been sitting here thinking of all the things that I want to be able to do and now I know I will be. 1/2 mile.....right now that seems like an unattainable feat.
