Guest guest
Alanson: There are smaller shoes. My son had 000, he is 3 months old and he would never keep his shoes on either. His problem, he was not fully corrected when we went to the Markell/DBB. After much frustration I went for a second opinion. That opinion came from Dr. Ponseti himself and now we have traveled to Iowa to have my son, Nichoals treated. Stay on your doctor so that your son does not relaspe as mine has. chazbuz wrote: Hello, This is my first time writing...a bit nervous. Our baby, Chas, was born with clubbed feet. He has been through a series of 8 casts, heel cord tendon release and now in the shoes with brace. His feet are so tiny...they hardly fit in the open toed shoes. They have already come off once in the the first day. I'm wondering how small they make the shoes? He has size 00. Also, his heel doesn't seem to hit the bottom of the shoe sole. Is this a problem? And, shouldn't the shoes be positioned on an angle? Thanks for any of your support. Alanson
Guest guest
Alanson, What you are going through right now was the very worst part of the entire experience (I hope!) for us ( is now 2). I was so scared and upset-- kept pulling one foot out of his shoe and would scream and cry seemingly constantly. I blame his doctor, who did her 'job' right in that she performed the procedure correctly, but when it came time for the shoes, she simply filled out a prescription form and sent me on my way. I looked up Dr. Ponsetti's website and fortunately found a doctor he recommended in my area (I would have flown to Iowa if I hadn't found anyone). When I brought in, Dr. Colburn was so helpful. He showed me how to put the shoes on properly and put pads on the backs of the shoes (also size 000) to help keep 's feet in. It helped tremendously. What also helped was that I was able to remove each shoe from the bar, put them on 's feet separately and then attach the bar. That made all the difference in the world in terms of getting the shoes on him. (they were turned out--to 70). Hang in there. This is so tough for you. You have to remember you are doing the very best you can. The best piece of advice I can give you is trust your instincts. If you think your doctor is not doing all s/he can, get another opinion! No one will advocate for your baby like you will. Beth sugarmag3000@... chazbuz wrote: Hello, This is my first time writing...a bit nervous. Our baby, Chas, was born with clubbed feet. Guest guest
Hello Alanson, Welcome to the group, you will find a wealth of information and support on this site, do not be nervous writing, that is what we are all here for, to talk to and support each other. The Markell shoes start at a 0000, that is 2 sizes smaller than the ones you currently have. You should try a 000 and if that is still too big, then the 0000. There is a list of tips and tricks under the files section (to your left). It will give you some really good advise on how to put on the shoes you will find this helpful I am sure. If Chaz has bilateral cf then both shoes should be rotated to a 70 degree outward rotation. If he has unilateral (one) cf then the cf should be set at 70 and the non cf at a 45 degree angle. Are Chaz's shoes not rotated outward? & Grace 14 mos right unilateral cf FAB 12-14 hrs > Hello, > > This is my first time writing...a bit nervous. Our baby, Chas, was > born with clubbed feet. Guest guest
Um, it sounds like you have problems. YES the shoes ought to be set at 70 degrees if they are clubbed, 45 I think if either foot is non-club. And YES the heel should be in the bottom of the shoe all the way back. I know you sent this a couple days ago, how are things now? s. Shoes/Dennis Browne Bar - HELP! Hello, This is my first time writing...a bit nervous. Our baby, Chas, was born with clubbed feet. Guest guest
hi, my son had the EXACT same thing happen. I ended up getting a second opinion regarding his problems. Come to find out that he has extremely flat feet, so his heel was unable to stay down. He ended up relapsing due to not being able to keep his shoes on (he kept getting out of them no matter how tight I put them on). Had to go through casting all over again, and now he is going on his last two weeks of the 3 month stint at 23 hrs. a day. (We switched to 's custom shoes). number23 wrote: Um, it sounds like you have problems. YES the shoes ought to be set at 70 degrees if they are clubbed, 45 I think if either foot is non-club.
