Guest guest
Hello all! I am pretty much a lurker on these boards, but I have gleaned so much knowledge from so many of you, so thanks. I know there has been some questions about bracing protocol and my doctor was giving info that also seemed to be pretty liberal with the bracing time. (Nights only straight from the three months of 23/7.) So, I decided to e-mail Dr. Ponseti himself, with the high hopes that he would reply. Well. . .he did! Bless that man. Here is my e- mail and his reply: Dr. Ponseti's reply July 29, 2005 Dear Mrs. Preston: The length of time the child wears the brace depends on the age of the child and the stiffness of the foot. There is variability in the time in the brace. In an infant, usually the brace is worn full time for three months, then 20 hours for a month, this 16-18 hours for a month and then at night and naptime. Once the child is walking it can be worn 12-14 hours a day. If the foot is very stiff, the brace may need to be worn more hours and if the foot is very loose, fewer hours. However, since we have seen late relapses, we now encourage parents to have their children wear the brace to age 4 years. I.V. Ponseti, M.D.

Guest guest
Hi, na, Looks like Dr. Ponseti emailled us both on the same day regarding the protocol. Glad his replies were nearly identical. Hopefully this will cut down on some of the confusion! Kim Lily, 3/28/05, lcf, P/M FAB 23/7 Tessa, 7/17/02 > Hello all!
