Hi, all.

I don't post here very often, but wanted to give some hope and

encouragement to you facing this difficult decision.

When I first starting looking into wls, I was terrified and refused to

seriously consider it for a long time. I was 20 years old when I first

started thinking about it -- my mother had the BPD in October of 1989 and

I vowed I would NEVER have weight-loss surgery -- that I could lose weight

without surgery. Well, a year later, another year spent as a clinically

super morbidly obese young woman, I met with my surgeon for the first

time, and tentatively decided to pursue the idea of having wls myself. My

mother was doing fantastically well and I was terrified by my future,

whether or not I had surgery. I was 21 years old and 320 lbs when I

started seriously looking into surgery.

A month after my 22nd birthday, I had my BPD (the DS wasn't really known

about at all at that time). I healed beautifully well and bounced right

back -- I swam daily and did other workouts for years prior to

surgery. My active lifestyle didn't help me lose weight, but it did

promote my own health and healing.

In the last 10+ years, I lost and am maintaining a loss of 125 lbs, going

from an unhappy size 26/28/30 to a 14/16 -- and now athletic, fit, and

happy.

I've just uploaded a couple of photos of myself from recent athletic

events. In June I did my first triathlon, and this past Saturday I

competed in the Vineman Ironman relay -- I did the 2.4 mile swim, my

teammate did the 112-mile bike ride, and Dave did the 26.2 mile

run. Our team came in first of all the relay teams!

You can find my folder of photos on the ds site at

I had my blood work done a month ago -- and everything came back perfectly

normal. I am religious with my supplements (www.vita4life.net) and also

with keeping in touch with my surgeon and getting my blood work done.

Good luck and be well,

Sharon

Sharon,

Yours was the most beautiful post I've read in a long time. It brought

tears to my eyes. Thank you so much for sharing with us. May God continue
