Guest guest
I have wanted to respond to this message for a while but have been putting it off for a better time. I want to let you know that there definitely are many of us dealing with the same issues and we too also struggle with the " how to's " and the " should I " of punishing our kids who display the autistic/OCD disorders. Asenath can drive us nuts at times especially the couple months following a cognitive stroke. She becomes hyperactive, obsessive with things being " just so, " with losing something and screaming because she thinks it's gone forever, of the repetitiveness of her words and actions, etc. I definitely feel guilt at times when needing to sit her down and wonder if she needs punished as it seems to be out of her control at times, but then if you ignore the situation and don't do anything then will it cause her to get worse when she can control it? The questions are endless in that area. I think there are really no clear cut answers for us to known when to punish and when not to. We have to have some control but yet be understanding as well. This is an area I have struggled with many times and I know when dealing with the bad days you just wish there was something we could DO to change them, to fix them, but we do the best we can as parents. I just wanted to let you know you weren't alone in this one.
