Guest guest
Hi, My drs worry when Asher (3 yrs. old) starts dropping off his growth curve in terms of weight or height. Glad your son is eating tons. That was not the case with my son when he lost weight - his intestinal motility had gotten so bad he wouldn't eat - eventually he ended up with a g-tube. I find that pediatric gastroenterologists are much more vigilant about weight issues than our pediatricians - and, thank God they are, b/c our ped kept saying Ash was okay and, in fact, labs revealed he was literally starving to death. We have a new pediatrician now and a g tube and Ash is thriving in terms of weight and growth. Good luck, Anne R
Guest guest
A toddler should never lose weight. Docs start to worry when a child loses weight and then does not regain it within a short amount of time. I'd keep a close eye on it. Is your guy ok for weight for height? When a child gets below about 25% for weight for height, I'd start wanting to test for signs of malnutrition (especially lower than 10%). A GI would be much more aggressive with this than a pedi. laura
Guest guest
s in the 5th percentile for weight, but the 95th percentile for height... hes always been long and lean, but the weight loss has me a bit concerned... I may call and just mention it to the doc... see what her take is... she didnt mention it at his appoitnemtn, but it may have been that she didnt notice it... he seems completely fine though in spite of it... eating well, and really healthy... > > A toddler should never lose weight.
