Guest guest
Crazy? Moi?!? Surely you jest! Seriously, I've gotten a lot less tolerant of ill treatment by the medical profession, because I've seen the damage it can do. On some of the other groups I'm on, there are people who are permanently and painfully disabled, because they followed their doctors' advice. When they started having problems, and the doctors dismissed the symptoms, they didn't stand up for themselves. Part of the reason I am less in awe of doctors is that my mother graduated from medical school, as a physician, the year before I graduated from high school. I have nothing but respect for anyone who has the commitment and endurance to go through medical school, internship, and residency. The 100 hour workweeks, competition, worry that you'll kill someone, or that you DID, are not anything I would even remotely be willing to put myself through. BUT I also know that my mother is quite as capable of being as full of, er, spit as anyone else. One thing I repeatedly encourage others to remember is that doctors (and other medical staff) work for us, NOT the other way around! We are the customers! Without us, they would have no job, no income. This does not mean they don't merit respect because they do. Sometimes I think they just need to be reminded that we do too! Any wonder my nickname is TORIH (Tact Of a Rhinocerus In Heat)? I even have a line drawing of a rhino on my personal letterhead and business cards!
