Guest guest
Ron, have you tried the Health food stores? They still carry it at least in CA. Plaquenil is quinine-- hydroxychloroquine. I don't suggest self dosing-- as too much will effect your vision. In fact-- does your Ophthal know you've been taking it? I wonder if it has effected your vision? HMMM..... Back when everyone was migrating to the US-- the sailors would get serious scurvy due to the lack of Vit C. (Rickets also) They found that since they couldn't get enough fruit to keep onboard-- that quinine helped this probem, but if taken in too high a dose-- they ended up blind. When they stopped the quinine, their vision returned. This is why all of us on Plaquenil have to get these eyes checked each six months--- to stop retinal damage. But if you insist on over the counter-- get it from the health food store.. Hugs, Tracie NS Co-owner/moderatorSee what's new at AOL.com and Make AOL Your Homepage. Guest guest
Pharmacies no longer carry quinine. I have been taking quinine for years for muscle spasms and cramps in my legs and torso. What can I take now? Any suggestions on a new medication? What are you taking for muscle spasms? I really like to know and thank you for your input. Guest guest
Tracie, Thanks for that info. I had no idea quinine could cause blindness. Is the plaquenil taken for muscle spasm also or for something else. Do I have to take shots of gin with each pill? Just kidding. Although I did drink my share of Tanqueray and tonic many years ago. And I insist on a slice of lime with it. Burrrrpppppp! Ronnie B-BBB -BBBbebe > > Ron, have you tried the Health food stores? They still carry it at least in > CA. Guest guest
had no idea quinine could cause blindness. Is the plaquenil taken for muscle spasm also or for something else. Yeah, Quinine has a direct effect of the retina of the eyes. Plaquenil is one of the meds they give us as an anti-inflamatory-- and it does help with the lung and muscle processes of sarc. I take it daily (400mg) as part of the trio that I'm on. I didn't realize how much it helped until I tried to get off of it-- and the hardening of the muscles in my back was nasty. I suspect that it helps by assisting in the absorbation of Vit C. Makes sense when you think that it was used on the overseas voyages between continents.
