I don't know a whole lot about this, so I decided to look it up. This is what I found from Kaiser's website. This medicine is to help heal your insides, not to treat nausea. Before you decide to stop taking it, definately call about it. Just some info to take into account...

Boy! I guess so. It wasn't an option not to take it...I was told to

definitely take it. Seems like they've changed their tune in the

last 6 months. Oh well! It was a nightmare to remember to take.

I'm doing very well, thank you.

How are you doing? Getting that water in?

Barbara I don't know who you talked to a Richmond, but you are suppose to take your carafate as directed. Otherwise you will end up with stomach aches, and or diarrhea as you change your little foods. Who did you talk to? Hi Donna,

I talked to Liz McClaren (???) I told her that it was difficult to fit everything in and I named off all of the things and she asked me if I had tried not taking the Carafate. I told her that I didn't know it was an option not to take it. She told me that it should say on the label to take as needed. I told her that it only said that on my Lortab not the carafate. She then told me to try not to take it and see what happens. I havent taken it since then and I haven't had any problems, but I go to stage 2 this afternoon so we will see what happens then!

Barbara, I too had surgery at KP Richmond (Dr. Park

assisted by Dr. Baggs) with two bottles of Carafate.

I was instructed to take it one hour before each meal.

When I went in for my two week check up, I was

instructed to continue taking it, so I did. After a

while, I was told not to take it unless my pouch would

get a little irritated which it did around I guess 5

months out and I was told to start back taking it or

just when my pouch got irritated to take it. I have

not taken it anymore....its been about 5 months now

and all is well. Dr. Fisher and Dr. Baggs both said

that they still see patients yearly that are far out

from surgery who still take the stuff. As always

though make sure you check with your surgeon before

stopping or starting. Take care and happy holidays.
