Guest guest
, Many of those who lost 25 lbs in 2-3 weeks had much higher BMIs than you did! Those who were 250 lbs to 300 or more naturally would lose alot more in a shorter period of time. I lost 81 lbs in 8 months and my hubby lost 125 lbs in the same amount of time.....but he weighed alot more than I did! 25 lbs in 8 weeks for you is very good considering the problems you went thru....obvioulsy the surgery is working becuz you are losing! Dont compare yourself to others..... Be happy you are losing.....thats all that matters!! Judie

Guest guest
, I understand your concern. I havn't had the surgery yet, but I've been connected at the hip to my friend who had the surgery on Oct. 30, 2000, and I've been attending the support groups for the last year. I was supposed to have the surgery on July 30, but have been rescheduled for September 14. My god-daughter had the surgery on June 13 and for lunch today she ate four ritz crackers with cream cheese, 4 slices of salami, and four little slices of gouda and washed it down with about 6 oz of pepsi. She is not lactose intolerant, however, lactose is a form of sugar and the pepsi is certainly not the best choice since post-op Dr. Rabkin requires that you stay away from sugar because it is absobed by the body immediately and turns into fat. Let me cut to the chase. Are you avoiding sugars, hidden kinds like in carbohydrates (starches and vegetables and fruit)? Are you drinking enough water and eating enough protein (60 grams/day)? Are you exercising? Are you avoiding alcohol? You may also want to contact your surgeon and check-in with him. Also regular plateaus are normal. Your body needs a chance to catch up with itself. My friend, at 9 months post-op just broke a 2-month plateau. She was frightened by a plateau I believe at the 2nd and 4th month as well. Also, Judie is right. Each person's weight loss is going to be different. Hang in there...don't step on the scale every day. My god-daughter is sticking to once a month weigh-ins and I'm going to try and do the same. Remember you have six months to lose 50% of the weight that you need to lose and then another year to lose the majority of what is leftover. If you lose it too fast, that can be equally bad. Sorry for the lengthy input.
