My husband was with me the day of surgery, but when home that night, 4.5 hours away, to take care of our children. I was there all by myself with no visitors, or family near by for my 8 day stay. They were very good to me. Meli, were you on the floor that has most of the bariatric patients, or in the other 2nd flood wing. I have heard if you don't end up on the bariatric floor the nurses can be very complacent. However, I was lucky and was not on the bariatric wing and they were still very good to me. I would certainly write a letter to the hospital and Dr. Hess (writing always makes the comments ring long enough for action) a letter because I know Dr. Hess has a great deal of influence in that hospital. Hope your recovery is going better than the care at the hospital. Guest guest
Meli, I'm sorry your care was less than what you deserved and am really glad that you had your mom there with you to help. My experience with just about everyone at Wood County was wonderful. I was on 2 South and during my 9 day stay, I never had a problem with getting what I needed in a reasonable time or having negative comments. A couple of the nurses (, Wanda and Patti) were so kind that it almost felt like I had my own family there. On the day of my leak test I was having a hard time emotionally because I felt crappy, had trouble drinking, was worried about having complications, etc. When one of the nurses () came in to change the dressing over my drain and saw that I had been crying, she didn't say anything at first but came back 15 minutes later with another nurse to check on me. I told them that I was having second thoughts and that I was afraid I had messed up my body for good. They both were ssooo very supportive and reassuring. They shared many success stories with me and told me that everthing would get better soon. told me that DS patients were among her favorites because she knew what a positive change the surgery brought to our lives. Later another nurse came down and told me about her two close friends that had had the surgery and were now doing great. For the rest of my stay, there were always nurses or aides just stopping down to see if I was ok or if I needed anything. My parents brought me a thank you note for the nurses when they came to pick me up and I cried as I was writing it out because I felt so touched by the extreme kindness that I had been shown. Guest guest
I wish I could have been on that floor Amy! I was on the third floor, and the nurse who checked me in told me right off the bat that this wasnt the usual DS floor. I have no doubt there are supportive wonderful nurses there, I wish I could have met them! So glad your experience was good.
