Guest guest
Chicken, fish, tuna (but that is fish to), beef (lean), turkey, cottage cheese (but don't quote me on that because I don't eat it. Just going by what someone told me), beans, eggs and some in cheese but cheese is sort of on the fattening side. Unfortunately, I can't tell you the amount in each food and I am sure there is more foods out there that contain protein. I hope that helps. Guest guest
Which shakes are you doing exactly? How are you preparing them? There are things you can do to vary them dramatically. I forget, how far out are you? Hair loss is a normal reaction of the body to any extreme stress, whether surgery, pregnancy, emotional trauma, etc. If you take a real close look at your scalp, you might be surprised to see little baby hairs starting to grow in. The hair follicles aren't dead, but a bunch of them decided to shed their hairs all at the same time. The normal cycle of a hair follicle is grow hair, rest, shed the hair, repeat. The shock of surgery (or whatever as listed above) sends a higher percentage of them into the " rest " phase, so they're nicely in sync when they then shed, meaning a bunch fall out at the same time. If you make sure to optimize your nutrition, and make sure you are treating your hair nice, and eating some fats (I know we've all been indoctrinated that fats are evil, but they are necessary, and not just for hair), the odds are overwhelming that the hair will come back. Guest guest
Hi Eleanor, I am now 10 weeks out. The Protein powder I'm doing comes from Wal- Mart. I usually don't like it as it says to do on the bottle. That way is to add milk and stir I think I don't like how thick it gets. I have made something like a smoothy out of it. I'm still not to sure of the things I can eat. Like fruit. I put bananas in it but would love to put either peaches or soemthing like that. But when I read the can the sugars in the fruit scares me. How far out are you? And can you give me some ideas of fruit and so on I can have. I know I don't do hot dogs well or dry chicken. But any ideas you can give me would be great I just get burnt out on food even trying to cook for the family. Thanks a bunch!!! > >Hello All, > > > >Just wondering if anyone can give me some ideas on Protein. Guest guest
; You didn't mention how far out you were from surgery. In addition to protein ideas (egg salad, tuna, etc), you might want to take biotin to help with the hair loss. This will come back in time. It's important to get enough protein while you body heals. There are many types of protein shakes out there. Some are fruit flavored based such as the nectar. My advice is to try samples first since everybody has different likes. Try vitalady for samples. Good luck Ozzie > > Hello All, > > Just wondering if anyone can give me some ideas on Protein. Guest guest
What brand? What is the form of protein? Whey? Soy? Egg? There is a lot of CRAP that is sold as protein. I strongly recommend ordering a bunch of samples from www.vitalady.com. My personal favorite is Champion Nutrition's Pure Whey Stack, chocolate flavor. It is the base of at least 90% of my shakes. In order to give yourself some variety, there are a lot of things you can do. There are sugarfree sauces and syrups you can find at places like Smart & Final, Cost Plus, or some supermarkets. You can add a couple of tablespoons of SF Jello or pudding powder to a shake. You can add tap water hot to a chocolate powder to make hot chocolate. You can add Crystal Light, or any sugarfree beverage you can tolerate. I strongly recommend AGAINST adding either milk or fruit to protein powder. The problem is that when you do so, you are getting your body used to SUGAR. There are many things your body will malabsorb, but sugar is not one of them. Absorbtion of that begins in the mouth! With the fruit, yes, it's natural, but it is still SUGAR. Yet another factor that can cause problems is that with the milk, you might find yourself lactose intolerant. I developed that problem years before my own surgery, when trying to drink milk while pregnant. On the other hand, I certainly didn't have problems with constipation! I'm 2.5 years out, basically at goal. I gained about four pounds last week while on a cruise, and am not worrying about it until after the party that is happening here on Saturday. Hope that helps!
