Guest guest
Louisa, So sorry you are having trouble. Did they widen the bar when they put the new shoes on? Since she's almost 6 months old now, it could be that the bar is too narrow, and the newer shoes are exacerbating the narrowness, because they, being larger, make the space between the heels even less. Do you still have her old shoes? Were they way too small for her or could you put them back on the bar and have her wear them again while her blisters heal? hope you get some good ideas and can resolve it.. > Now I know how those parents who have been tortured by " the bar " feel. Zoe > got her 3rd pair of Markell's in May. Never a problem before, but nothing but problems with this pair. She started out with blisters on the tops of her feet. She would get one, I would do her shoes up even tighter, no more blisters for a week. Her foot would start looking good again (no more red), then it would happen again, I was still doing them up tight. Blisters would come and go and she really did not fuss much on the nights where she was getting the blister. Maybe off and on a little, but not too bad. It kept happening, getting better, then again. > > I took her to the orthotist last week (Wed) and she put a big thick insert in the back (there was a smaller one before). Zoe was OK that night, not great, but OK. The next night she cried all night long. I cut the insert out and she was fine until Monday then, yes, another blister. I called and we went back in Wed. Orthotist thought that Zoe's foot is a little thin from the bottom to the top of her foot (does that make sense?) thickness and that may have been causing the tongue to form a sharp curve instead of a smooth one. She put some soft thick padding on the bottom of the tongue and a little thicker insert on the back (not as big as last time, and it is softer). She was fine on Thursday night, last night she screamed all night. It took the shoes off at about 2am, gave her some milk and while she was drinking put the shoes back on. She layed (sp?) down for about 10 minutes in bed and then started again. The top of her foot this morning is very red, no blisters. > > I really am at a loss. Even though her foot is red and she is obviously not happy, I am partly wondering if it is red because she is trying to push it off, which I know she is and is just MAD. > I wish she could tell me. She doesn't love me putting them on before bed, but does not put up much of a struggle. She plays around with no fuss before I put her to bed and will even lay down for a while before starting off. Power play?? Although the hysterical screams last night tell me different. > > I feel my last resort is to try the Sandals. Guest guest
Hi , We moved over the weekend and a lot of our stuff (along with Zoe's old shoes) are in storage from when we cleaned our old house of clutter to sell it (watching those house shows on HGTV) I think her old shoes may be too small now because even with the new ones her toes are at the end. The orthotist said as long as the bone at the bottom of the big toe is not past the end of the Markell then she could wear them. I am going to try to find them today. I will try anything. The phone number that was given to me for is a fax, so I have e-mailed him and asked if he could call me. With regards to bar length, we have checked and it seems fine. Thanks so much for replying. Guest guest
Louisa, Ive been having similar problems with Elijah recently and he and Zoe are about the same age. When Elijah got his third pr about shoes about a month ago they also added a 5 deg bend to the bar on his right foot (he's also RCF). He's fought me on the shoes and slipped out since the change. I realized last night while taking pics to send to Dr P, that he has no dorsiflexion. After his second tenotomy, his Dr never added the bend to the bar so we lost ground there. Im going to have his bar made straight today so he can wear the shoes until we can make our move in a couple months and let his new Dr in Hawaii deal with the dorsiflexion issue. (Unless Dr P replies and tells me different) What helped me was taking the shoes off the bar for a day. I let him walk around in the shoes and sleep in them for 24 hours. His red pressure marks faded quite a bit during the day and he slept great last night. Maybe letting her wear just the shoes will isolate your problem and let you know if its the shoes or the bar shes fighting. HTH, Lori > > Of course she's not 6 months, born the Feb. before.. sorry! > > still.. Guest guest
Well I ended up digging Zoe's last pair of Markell's out storage and switched them out with the new pair. She was fine, so it was the new pair of shoes. Not sure what to do now. Maybe when her feet get a little bigger the new pair will be more comfortable.
