go to the market and buy a nice, thick juicy fillet mignon and have that for

dinner! There are no carbs in that. Stop at KFC on the way back and pick

up some fried chicken too! (No carbs in the KFC)

Eat a bowl of chili! (lotsa protein in the beans)

And stay off the scales for 2 weeks and then see how youve done!!

Hi ,

I don't have any suggestions on what to do to lose more weight since

I'm still pre-op but I have suggestions for the protein problem.

There are lots and lots of meatless choices out there. Try Garden

Burgers, or Morning Star Farms meatless chicken nuggets, meatless

sausage links and patties, and meatless bacon. It's all very tasty

and has plenty of protein. You can also try tofu in place of meat in

any recipe. Also, you may want to try edemame. Those are soy beans

in the pod that look like lima beans but have a slightly different

taste. With a little butter and some spices they are really good!

Hope this helps.

You do not have to eat only bacon and eggs. You do have to

get in 75g of protein every single day not matter what. You do have

to eat your protein first at every meal. You also have to be

creative to make your food choices high protein and still make sure

that you like them. If you eat your protein first you will not have

room for carbs. You may still crave them but if their is no room for

them you can't eat them without becoming ill. Having experienced this

twice after overeating I know it is not pleasant. As a result I

prepare my plates with the amount of food that I can eat. I check my

level of fullness regularly.

Initially I was really quite frustrated because I couldn't get

my protein in. I finally found a Designer Whey protein after trying

about 10 protein shakes. It has very little taste and goes down

smoothly . Because we can only absorb 30g of protein at once I mix 1

1/2 scoops of this mix with 4-5 ounces of water. I can easily drink

this without feeling nauseated. I have never been a breakfast eater

and this has not changed post-op. I beat have beat this by eating a

pure protein bar every morning. I start eat about half of the bar

around 10am and the second half during the afternoon as an afternoon

snack. Each bar has Lunch usually consists of a 4oz chicken breast

which I talk one of my loved ones into cooking en masse the sunday

before, because I turn green when I have to touch a raw chicken

breast. I recently found a few vegetarian substitues in the grocery

deparmtent which tast great and are loaded with protein. I have these

soy fake baloney slices which are 17g of protein for a 3 ounce

serving. I also found VandeCamps beenie weenies have 17g of protein

for a 7 ounce serving. You have to eat it in two settings but they

taste pretty good.

These are not the cheapest options in the world but they work

for me. However if you are having financial problems that prevent you

from moving your diet in this direction you should post to this group

that you need more affordable options. I can remember my college days

when I ate almost complete carbs and fat because they were cheap and

kept for a long time.

Have you returned to work yet? I am horrible at excercise but my

job is very demanding and keeps me on the go. It might help you as a

RN you would almost certainly be on the go constantly helping to burn

off those stubborn pounds. However if you are housebound then you will

have a more difficult time getting the weight off. I noticed that

after I lost the first 24 pounds my feet no longer swelled up when I

walked so that made it a lot easier for me to get going. Prior to

returning to work I made it a priority to get in a 1/2 hour walk every

day. I did it because the pulmonary embolism thing scared the life out

of me and because it got me out of the house and because I was bored

stiff not being able to work except for the few times that they called

me and I dialed in to solve a problem.

Also depending upon how long your plateau has lasted I have

heard other recommend eating a krispy creme donut to break the

plateau. I have yet to hit a plateau that lasted longer than 2 weeks

so I have not tried this yet. But I hear it helps get the old

metabolism shifted. But, I think that they say only to eat one and not

to do it every day only to break a plateau.

April, yes increase your exercise. Make sure you are

getting water and watch those dirty little carbs.

Watch the sugar and hang in there. Never give up.

April Are you under 1200 calories a day? Sometimes if you're under just a little your body goes into thinking your starving it and won't budge a pound. You might need to up a few calories for a few days then back to the 1200 to get it moving again. If you are eating the 1200 or little more, then are you drinking all your water and exercising? You can increase your exercising just 5 minutes each time and start to lose again, and if possible increase your water a little bit. If you've tried all these then sometimes it just takes your body time to come out of a plateau, but don't give up and give in to the food or you will start to gain what you've already lost. You try some of these, and let us know how your doing. Hang in there. Take care. Hi April,

The one thing that I have noticed really seems to help break a plateau

is to vary your exercise routine. If you have been mostly walking,

trying swimming or biking or whatever. Maybe add in a little work with

weights or resistance. Our bodies get used to a routine and, as a

result, don't burn off as much as when challenged by unaccustomed

activities.

I know that I am slow in responding . . . so I am hoping that your

plateau is history . . . but try varying your activities anyway. It

couldn't hurt. Might be fun.

Take care,
