Guest guest
Thanks , I'll look up that file and print it off for him. I think I just want cf infor in general right now. This guy is a family practice OB type. He struck me as the type who doesn't appreciate a patient knowing anything he doesn't know himself. I believe i " ll be gtting a level 2 later on in a few weeks. s. Re: Need Info For Doctor ee- What kind of info are you looking for specifically? If you're looking for " ultrasound diagnosis " info- then I'm afraid that we don't have much on that. If you're looking for " general " Ponseti method info just to bring the guy up to speed, then I'd recommend printing off that booklet from Global HELP and also giving him the link to Dr. P's virtual hospital site and the http://members.tripod.com/ponseti_links-ivil site. Is this guy a regular OB-GYN or is he a perinatologist? You might be able to get your level 2 ultrasound conducted by a perinatologist or high-risk OB doctor who specializes in pre-natal diagnosis and counseling. For both of my subsequent pregnancies after I had (my first born with clubfoot), I saw a regular OB-GYN, but at my 20 wk ultrasound, the perinatologist conducted a pointed u/s (level 2 u/s) and then forwarded the results to my regular doctor. I hope you have this option at your hospital. Maybe your mid-wife can help you find someone who has dealt with clubfoot before. I hope you were just " seeing things " on both accounts at your ultrasound......it would be so wonderful if you wouldn't have to deal with crooked tootsies this time around- boy or girl! Fingers are crossed here for you. > GlacierHi All, > > You probably know I'm preggers with baby #3, and two previous 2 had cf. Well I'm seeing a mid wife but saw a dr. today for an ultrasound. Guest guest
The cf didn't show up on 's u/s early on. No body was looking for it, and it was earlier in the pregnancy. With Everett though we looked for it because already had and it showed up on a level 1 and a level 2 quite plainly. When the dr. today said it wouldn't show up the midwife and I both said, " Well it showed up before on her other! " and I tried to explain that cf often doesn't even occur till 20 weeks so the feet could be OK early on and clubbed later, thus I wanted a later scan. s. Guest guest
LOL! That actually crossed my mind although I doubt insurance would go for it. s. Guest guest
Did you find out at your scan with the other 2?? I don't know what information you are looking for but we are in the UK and we have a routine scan around 18 weeks where they measure bones and look at the heart etc. We didn't get our scan until 20 weeks and they couldn't get a good piccie of the baby's feet everything else came up ok and she did tell us she thought it was a boy but she really did have to have a good look as apparently it is not that easy to see unless you know what you are looking for...... Anyway we had to go back a week later - that's when they just took stills of the feet and I know this because I asked to see them and you really could see that both feet were clubbed, they took lovely pictures of the angle. They said they wouldn't know for sure how bad they were but when he came out they looked just like the pictures!!! oh yes and he is a boy too!!!!! Guest guest
ee, I am sure you will have better luck with the ultrasound at the hospital. The equipment there is usually so much better than in office. I don't know what to tell you about written information for him but like , my ultrasound was done by a perinatologist. We were not looking for clubfoot but there was some suspicion that Kelsey might have Doen's syndrome and they were looking for markers by ultrasound since I adamantly refused amniocentesis. This scan was done at 20 weeks and the perinatologist thought he saw it but wanted me to come back at 24 weeks to confirm and sure enough, it was there. These specialists are really amazing with what they can see on ultrasound. THey diagnosed the cyst on Kelsey's kidney the day before she was born. That amazes me. Good luck with the Doctor. Guest guest
ee, also make sure they do at least a level 2 ultrasound. It's usuallly considered standard nowadays, but you never know what kind of equipment some doctors may still be using. The level 2 ultrasound is very accurate and they say that if something is seen on this kind of ultrasound (ie. clubfoot) then it's pretty definitive. Best of luck to you, but I highly doubt there can possibly be a 3rd clubfoot baby. I mean, what are the odds???? > > GlacierHi All, > > > > You probably know I'm preggers with baby #3, and two previous 2 > had cf. Well I'm seeing a mid wife but saw a dr. today for an > ultrasound. Guest guest
ee, Not to, um, depress you or anything, but I grew up friends with a family with 5 children. All but one of them were born with bilateral clubfoot. Imagine the parents' surprise when the last one was born with straight feet! They must have wondered what was wrong with her feet... It's interesting too. They were all treated by the same doc, 2 of them needed surgeries, 2 didn't. Their mother tells me that all the feet were about equally as severe at birth. Oh, and a few of the grandkids also have clubfoot. Naomi The Family Naomi Hannah(02/21/01) Jonah(06/20/03, corrected bilateral clubfoot, FAB 14/7) > What are the odds indeed! Guest guest
Oh you don't depress me. These things just happen and we'll accept that. I think part of knowing early through an ultrasound is having the time to adjust and accept so when the baby arrives you're in Action Mode rather than Shock Mode. And ya, I bet baby #5 did surprise them! LOL! s. Re: Need Info For Doctor ee, Not to, um, depress you or anything, but I grew up friends with a family with 5 children. Guest guest
Well I admit acceptance is creeping in, it will be what ever it will be and I can't do a darn thing about it so why pout? s. Re: Need Info For Doctor Well ee, I have to say at least you are keeping your sense of humor! If it were me I'd be going nuts! But we will keep our fingers crossed that that " suspicious " view of the foot was nothing more than baby putting his/HER(!) legs in crazy positions. When they diagnosed Sammy's cf on the ultrasound it was very unclear the first time, he kept putting his legs " cross-legged " so they couldn't really tell what was going on. They really have to get a good lateral view to tell. In any case we'll be thinking of you and have you and the little one in our prayers. > What are the odds indeed! Guest guest
ee: CF can be picked up on an ultrasound. I was sent to the perinatalist by my OB-GYN . He saw spotted it right away. He used a very high tech level 2. We could see everything from heart chambers, that his kidneys were working properly, his stomach, everything..... it was unreal and so cool! - Arkansas CF BL 6-11-05 novemberfable wrote: ee, also make sure they do at least a level 2 ultrasound. Guest guest
ee: I found out that my daughter had bilateral cf when I was 19 weeks pregnant. As for the sonograms, I would recommend that you seek out a group that uses doppler technology. I live in MD and went to University of land Medical Center, Center for Advance Fetal Care for some other tests. They use a machine that is made by GE and actually uses doppler (like they use for the weather...). Then my sonogram results were reviewed by a Perinatologist. I have scanned copies of my sono from 18 weeks where you can clearly see her feet. If you want to see copies of my sono, let me know and I can forward to you via e-mail. Ironically enough, I have big feet (I am 5 feet tall and wear size 8 1/2 - 9) and as a joke (during my 18 week sono) I kept asking the Pernatologist to get a picture of Maddie's feet. He asked why and I told him that I have bad feet in my family. He asked what I meant by that and I told him that my feet were not " bad " per se, but just big.... and I was hoping that she did not have big feet like her momma. Maybe mom's intuition..... Hope this helps some.... Good Luck! Guest guest
My thoughts exactly! I think from the beginning of this pregnancy I have been convincing myself of that. I think were in opposite shoes. You already having 2 boys and me having 2 girls. I think as a Mom you would like to experience having both sexes (if possible). I don't get my US for another 4wks. I like you...love my OB, he is very supportive and will give me pretty much anything I ask. On the other hand I am dealing with a very obnoxious Perinatologist! I think I have had my fill of ignorance this past year. Kari > > What are the odds indeed!
