Guest guest
Hi Anne When Max gets the muscle spasms I massage, apply warmth and give her Motrin....that is the only thing that has worked for us....it does seem to help a little.... we she is sick, she has them much more frequently On a different note: Max's mito medical team has provided written directions to the local ped. as to what to do when Max gets sick. The local ped has submitted a write up to our local hospital in the event she is brought into the emergency room. We learned that our local hospital has a file/book in the ER for of children with special medical needs. I am not keen on putting it to the test, but for the time being it does give me a little more confidence for the immediate local assistance when needed, when she is not in a position for me to drive her 2 hours by car to her mito team/hospital. you may want to check if such a book exist at your local hopital. Hope Asher gets better soon. best regards rosy
Guest guest
Hey Anne, My daughter has Complex 1 and from onset at age 16, muscle weakness and fatigue are her primary symptoms. The cramps and spasms can be extremely painful, but her muscles also just get hard, like rocks, and that is also painful. As I understand it, it is the result of lactic acid buildup in the muscles. It takes some time for the lactic acid to make its way out of the muscle. Warmth and massage often help, but the relief is short-term. She has a prn prescription for muscle relaxors which she takes in the case of severe spasms. She doesn't like to take it very often because it makes her feel less alert. Mostly it is just for emergencies. Hope things improve for you. Guest guest
We use hot baths & Glutamine. Glutamine helps neutralize the lactic acid while balancing cortisol levels. It also lowers ammonia.
