Guest guest
It cost me about 750 dollars to rent a car from the airport for approx. 2 weeks, but I was an underage renter too. Whe you get to the ronald Mc house they have van runs to and fron the hospital at certain times, but the hospitall is less than a mile a way, I think. Easily within walking range... and it will be warm, so you don;t have to worry about that. Last time I was there it was Febuary, so I rented a car for Gabe's sake. michele_and_collin wrote:I just thought of another question, once you are there, arrive at the airport, how did you all get to the hospital. Did you rent a car, take a taxi, etc? I would love to hear anything helpful, estimated costs, etc. Michele Yoder

Guest guest
, I have always rented a car. The base rate for a one day rental to and from the Cedar Rapids airport is $37 to 44 or so. It's easy to get to the rental cars; they're right outside the airport doors.. and it's a straight shot to Iowa City down the highway, less than a half hour away. Since it's a small airport, and a small city, it's pretty straightforward to get around. (If it would help later, I'll be glad to give you precise directions if you need them!) I have never done the taxi or transport service, but I'm sure that's doable too. If you're at the RMH, they have van service to the airport every couple hours or so, I believe. Have you seen that you can apply for a reservation online for the RMH? I would definitely go ahead and make plans and appts. and hope for the insurance business to be figured out! Best of luck.. please keep us posted and asking questions; I'm sure many people can help! and Claire > I just thought of another question, once you are there, arrive at the > airport, how did you all get to the hospital. Guest guest
Michele, when we went we actually drove from TX but we stayed at the RMH. So we took the van instead of using our rental car. It was easier since they drop you off at the front rather than us finding a parking spot, getting a parking ticket, etc. BUT, we went in December too cold to walk. Since you are gong in the summer you could just walk there, it is not far at all. If we would have gone during a warm season I would have walked becase the van has scheduled runs so make sure you know what the times are. If you do miss the van you can call and if they have a volunteer that can pick you up they will. But if you don't mind walking it is really pretty. Lots of trees and there is a river that runs behind the RMH. I think someone already mentioned to you about making a reservation online for the RMH. It's really nice there. The only thing is that they will not be able to let you know if they have a room available until the day you arrive. When you arrive you call and they will tell you if they have a room. We made a " back up " reservation at the Red Roof Inn just in case the RMH did not have room but luckily we got the last room. So you will need to do some planning before you go. and BL CF 12/16/03 > I just thought of another question, once you are there, arrive at the > airport, how did you all get to the hospital. Guest guest
Yeah, it seem unusual but that is b/c anyone staying there is allowed to be there as long as they need to. There is no time limit on how long you stay so they will not know until you arrive if they have room for you. I would still make a reservation though. When I made my back up reservation at the Red Roof Inn I just told them that I may not need it if the RMH had room and they said that was fine. I told them this b/c I was securing it with a credit card and they usually require a 24hr cancellation notice or they will charge your card. Something you might want to keep in mind when you are making reservations. I know how you feel, I wanted everything to go as smoothly as possible. The good thing at the RMH is there is kitchens where you can cook and lots of donated food. That can help costs down also instead of having to go out to eat. That helped us a lot too. and BL CF 12/16/03 > Wow Thanks for the good tips everyone! I didn't realize that they > couldn't tell you until the day your arrive.
