Guest guest
Hi my name is Kim. Some may know me as KimberDS from the obesityhelp.com chat room or kim in o from the ossge iowa nebraska board. I had my surgery 10 months ago in omaha nebraska with Dr. Sudan. I started out at 320 lbs and i'm 5'5 and a half..i'm told the half really does COUNT. LOL I have lost to date a little over 90lbs and i'm losing so slow....have been since about March. Does anyone else with DS feel they are losing so slow to none at all. I haven't lost in months. Sometimes I feel like the RNY would have allowed me to lose more weight. My goal weight was supposed to be 150 at 5'5..dont' forget the half. LOL and I don't see ever gettingthere. If i've only lost 20 pounds since march. I just am feeling like I should have gone with RNY. Though I do love my new eating lifestyle. I feel very normal and the BM's really aren't that bad. I have about 2 every morning..sometimes more..and sometimes..yes sometiems even less. Other than NOT LOSING i'm doign good. is there an ossg site for SLOW losers who are convinced they are done. Guest guest
Kim, I totally understand what you are going through. I have only lost 38 lbs in 6 months after my DS surgery. (And that is with about a month of semi-starvation dieting and about 3 months of vigorous swimming for exercise three times a week.) At this rate, I will not lose a substantial amount of my excess weight before my " window " runs out. In addition, I have done the " cottage cheese " test that gives us a ball-park estimate of our stomach size and it is now 10 oz. It was that size ever since I was 4-1/2 months post-op. This is somewhat on the large size for 4-1/2 to 6 months post-op. I am going to have a revision of my common channel, alimentary limb, and hopefully my stomach as well, in late August. Here are some web addresses that you might be interested in: The cottage cheese test: http://www.sabariatric.com/cottage_cheese_test.htm The DS revision list: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DS_Revision The OSSG revision list: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/OSSG-Revision The DS slow losers club list: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/wlss Unfortunately, the DS slow losers club list doesn't have a huge amount of traffic right now, but I expect it will pick up eventually. If you are thinking that an RNY is the answer, you may change your mind after reading the revision lists and the OSSG Hungry list: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ossg-hungry Joy Frost, both Pre and Post-Op DS Age: 48 Open DS with Deveney/Welker Date: 2-5-01 Common channel: 100cm Alimentary limb: 250cm Weight at time of surgery: 255 lbs BMI: 47 Weight as of 8-1-01: 217 lbs BMI: 40 (-38 lbs) Revision to be done in late August 2001 http://www.duodenalswitch.com/Patients/Joy/joy.html > Hi my name is Kim.
