Hello everyone My name is Sara (24) and I live in sacramento. I am new to all this. I have done research but I am just now entering the process. I am getting ready to meet with the kaiser phsyciatrist. I am nervous. Can anyone tell me what is the next step in this process. I was told by kaiser that if my primary care physician refers me I am covered by insurance. She said she did and this is my next step along with the ultrasound. Am I approved for this or am I still getting approved?? Any info is appreciated. P.S. I do want to have children after a year has passed post surgery, will this negatively affect getting pregnant?

Sara,

You are not approved yet, you have to go through all of the tests and then they

will send your application to South SAn Francisco for approval. You can get

pregnant afterwards but I think it was 2 years if I remember correctly. Have

your PCP look at all of the tests that need to be complete. You are on your way

now. If you have any questions just ask them here. You have found a wonderful

support group.

Hi, Sara -

My Kaiser OB/GYN told me that it actually tends to improve your

chances of getting pregnant in most cases; and she has three women

under her care right now who are post-op WLS patients and pregnant. So

although I certainly am not planning for more kids (I'll be 50 next

month!) I don't think you should worry. Talk to your OB/GYN at some

point SOON, though, and discuss your questions with her.
