Guest guest
was diagnosed when he was born with Talipes (moderate) in his left foot. The shock was enormous and i spent the first week of his life crying all over him and wondering what it would mean for him and us. We did physiotherapy at home for the first 6 weeks, and then saw an orthopedic surgeon who recommended casting. I had read stuff on the internet and looked at various chat rooms and braced myself for months of agony (him) and coping (us!). I have to say that i could not have been more wrong! had 10 weeks of castings (changed weekly) and never once cried. He even stayed asleep when some of them were cut off and once fell asleep as they were re-applying a new one. The nurses and surgeon have said he is their best Talipes baby! The point of this is to tell anyone worried as i was that it is not necessarily going to be difficult. (although i know it sometimes is!) He had his achilles tendon cut during surgery when he was 12 weeks old. He did not react at all, and i only had to give him 1dose of baby paracetamol that night and he was fine. 3 further weeks of castings, and then he went onto the boots and brace. He wore those for 3 months 24/7 and never once complained or cried. He enjoyed the sound of bashing them down on our wooden floors! For the last 4 months he has had to wear the boots only for sleep time, and has been sleeping through the night since he was 5 months old. He never ever cries at night due to the brace, but sleeps 11-12 hours like a lamb. I think i am truly blessed to have such an angel, but the point is that it is not all doom and gloom. I was so scared and anxious about whether i could sit by his bed all night nursing him until he was 4 years old, or how i could handle a baby in agony post surgery, but i have not had to do anything. His left foot looks fabulous and despite being smaller and not a perfect shape, its working wonderfully for him. He has started to stand up (Pull up) on his own, and is active earlier than his non Talipes older brother. The only problem i have is with others who say silly things like 'such a shame' because now you would never know that there had been anything wrong with him, or that he has to wear a brace in bed. I thank the stars every day that my baby is a lucky angel who has not been bothered by it so far.......

Guest guest
Thank you so much for taking the time to post 's success story! Too often, these support groups can lead newcomers to think that they're in for a really " rough ride " ahead because most of the people who come here for help are having issues. We don't get to hear from the many families who don't have any issues and no questions because treatment is a breeze for them! Luckily, when my daughter was an infant, our story was much like yours- we had ZERO issues with the casting, tenotomy and bracing once we switched over to treatment with Dr. Ponseti. Please continue to post and give us 's updates! By the way, can you tell us what physician is treating him?
