Guest guest
In all honesty, I had slacked off on my vitamin regimen, but have gotten back on track. Right now I'm taking 6 of Vitalady's Tender Iron. Each is 25 mg of carbonyl iron. I'll have labs done in a few weeks and see where I'm at in the ferritin and iron levels and if I need to increase. I do also take Vitamin C with the iron, but separate the iron/C combo from anything else, including food. There's a long list of things iron competes with for absorbtion. I know a lot of folks have had really good luck with either the Tender Iron, or cocktailing that with some fumarate or polysaccharide. For some reason, they do better with a combination than they do with a single form of iron. I have tried sulfate in the past (pre-op) and it caused a lot of tummy discomfort. Will let you know how my numbers are the next time I get labs done. At 21:05 02/24/2006, you wrote: >E, how much what do you take in the way of iron? How >is your ferritin? Eleanor Oster eleanor@... Guest guest
Thanks E! How long do you think I should wait for a redraw on my ferritin? Laurie __________________________________________________

I'd probably wait 4-6 weeks while keeping on your current regimen, then see if the numbers are coming up. If not, add more of what you need and try again. Basic rule of thumb is to get fairly frequent labs until you find a regimen that works for YOU, since we all absorb stuff differently. Then once you have your routine in place, stick with it and get labs once or twice a year. Track your own lab results yourself, getting copies sent to you. Most docs just look for numbers that are outside the ranges the lab thinks of as normal. They do not usually compare the latest labs to the previous set, so they aren't looking for downward trends. Also, many labs think of B12 levels as low as 200 as being okay. I know far too many folks who can FEEL the difference if their numbers get under 600. They try to keep the numbers over 800, and prefer over 1000. If you're interested, I have an Excel spreadsheet I use to track mine. Eleanor Oster eleanor@... Guest guest
Eleanor, VitaMom told me to double my Tender Iron, so I am trying that. I'll see how that goes. Thanks, I'd love to see your spreadsheet! Laurie __________________________________________________
