> The big Question is always, " which comes first? " In this case, the

mental problems or the obesity. It is my opinion that they feed off

of each other. That may be what makes it so hard to maintain a

weight loss. When we get around to losing weight, the mental issues

are still there to nullify our efforts. We must find ways to break

the cycle. I know as well as the rest of you how that is much easier

said than done. Perhaps one way is to try to divert the mental

propensity for failure with a positive attitude that is held up with

the successes. That means that we should start with looking for ways

to stroke our ego by looking for reasons to continue rather than

telling ourselves how hard it is and finding ways to reward ourselves

with the same old things that got us into trouble in the first

place.

who just wants to eat things that taste good. The only way to deal

with an unruly child is to show him (or her) who the adult is. As

with any child who has been let go for too long, it takes a lot of

persistence to show them who is boss. My goal is to get the upper

hand with that spoiled brat who keeps stuffing junk into my mouth.

After all, I am an adult, if I choose to be. I know I for one need to

stop blaming my childhood, my molestation, my low self esteem, my

need to be loved.....for my obesity. I am in control of my body and I

will no longer give in to rationalizations or excuses!!

I agree!!! I have no theories of grandeur about how I got to

330lbs. I can joke about it now, and I do. I wander around the

grocery store making good choices now, but sayig to my financee as we

pass all the HIGH FAT FOODS. I know how I got like this... see those

pints of ice cream.. use to eat them all the time... whole thing. And

super burritos, and personal pizzas... yeah every day.. whole thing.

I'm not here to fool my mind, body or soul...I did this to myself.

I'm the only one that can fix it.

I agree that you can raltionalize anything if you try hard enough..

doesn't mean it's right or true. I believe we all eat cause we like

FOOD. Hell there is nothing wrong with saying that. I have certain

foods I just love, others I tolerate and others I hate.

This whole process is about me! No matter what anyone says, I believe

you know why you eat. You are bored, you like the taste, you are

hungry so you stuff till sick, you don't have an off switch so you

always eat and never seem full.

I know why I reached 330.. not because I eat alot. I mean I never

felt ill or just sat around eating and eating. I was always active at

some level just not enough to loose weight. I was able to maintain

for years.. but then I got depressed and didn't want to talk and just

wanted to mask them and the only thing that was easy to mask with was

FOOD. Hell to think if I'd mask it with exercise we wouldn't be on

this message board now would we!!!

I'm ready in my head and in my heart to make this committment. Those

whom make excuses- of any kind - arent ready and no one can make them

until they resolve inside to stop making excuses.

Likewise ... it was great to hear you speak. Normally I would

have went to support group last night too, but I was just not feeling

it.. so I stayed home, worked out, and went to bed early.

I have my next weight in for those 3 remaining pounds in 2 weeks. I

have to get back on track like you mentioned with what works... and

stop cheating myself.
