Guest guest
SArah, I am not immune expert . We here deal with low IGGs. Here is what I found on elevated IGA: The IgA antibody is the intermediate responder and quantitatively the second most prevalent humoral antibody. If IgA is elevated, there is presumptive evidence that an infection exists and it is transitioning from acute to chronic/long term condition. An elevated IgA level frequently accompanies an elevated IgG level. Hasn't Zach been pretty sick off and on recently? Maybe this would explain it. As far as the numbers being different it could be pediactric values versus adult or lab versus lab. It seems like every lab has differnt values. I know it must be frustrating because he has been sick and you still have no explanation, but kids with mito just sometimes have more suseptability even without the low immune numbers. Just keep doing what you are doing ! Dawn

Guest guest
Wow. High IgA - I don't know how to read that either. I know that IgA is the first line of defense in all our mucous membrance so it fights the germs, viruses in our nose, mouth, eyes... to me, it would seem to be good to have a high iga. I have none and it is a problem... But, saying that, I also know there is a Hyper IgM syndrome and so I don't know if there's a HyperIgA one as well --- check on the primary immune deficiency website (just type primary immune deficiency in and the site should come up). I'm just thinking it all sounds good. Did they check IgG subclasses? Did they check his antibody response to the vaccines? That is a very important test to do if Zach gets a lot of illnesses - you can have enough immunoglobulins but if they don't work right (and that test will tell you) then you get sick...
