Adult onset Mito

I am a 52 year old female and I am awaiting the results of my

muscle biopsy to confirm the diagnosis of mitochondrial disease. My

symptoms actually started almost 6 years ago with occassional double

peripheral vision which would go away if I rested for 15-20

minutes. At that time I went to my opthamoligist and he refered me

to the University of Michigan, to a neuro opthamologist, and to have

a MRI. The brain scan came back normal and I prety much stumped the

experts as to what my problems were.

As life goes on I just dealt with it. My symptoms over the years,

(though eposodic, happening at least once a day now, but not lasting

for more than a few hours) have increased to include, imbalance, leg

weakness, (a stiff legged gait) almost like I am drunk, and the

latest, slurred speach. These symptoms are also not always present

at the same time...sometimes it is just the double vision or the

balance, or maybe my speach. Fatigue can bring on an episode. My

balance and stiff leggedness seems to be worse at night after I have

been sitting for a long period.

Anyway I would be interested in chatting with anyone who is

experiencing anything similar. I have started taking the " Vitimin

Cocktail " (on my 4th day) and though I was symptom free during the

day, which hasn't happened in a while, I had a hard time walking

late at night. Hope to hear from some adults with this

disease.
