Guest guest
I have one son with significant bleeding issue, and a couple of the other kids do have blood sugar issues (sugar also effects energy available to the brain). Don't be afraid to bring these problems up to your primary care doc and ask about seeing the appropriate specialist. Guest guest
Hi Suzanne, Ellie does much better when we limit her sugar intake...only one juice a day and it is diluted with water...we use honey instead of syrup on her waffles and carrots...no cookies or candy (maybe one piece here and there, but not a lot)....she doesn't beg for sweets except for fruit, which is great. As for bruising...it takes her a long time to heal from a bruise. For example, she will still have IV bruising on the back of her hand 3-4 weeks AFTER the IV was removed. It just takes a long time to disappear. Have a great day! Guest guest
If I remember correctly, has liver issues. I was told, with Grace, to always watch for easy buising as it may be a sign that the liver is not working well. Of course I'm no doctor, but maybe they would want to do a liver profile, with a clotting time. On the other hand I have noticed that, at times, Grace will bruise very easily. She is due for a liver profile really soon, and it has not been done for awhile, but I am very confident it will be normal. With the sugar thing. Is it just her bloodsugar dropping, causing her to get crabby? Grace can be downright mean when it is low. She cannot drink juice, but a sugar candy or something tends to purk her up really quick. We do follow up a sugar with a high carb snack just to stop the sugar low before it hits. I hope this may be some help. carrie Try the new Beta version of MSN Messenger - it's FREE! Guest guest
bruises alot, but its nothing were concerned about... the sugar thing is a biggy, his sugar will drop, and he will turn into a MONSTER... complete meltdown. The only thing that helps quickly enough is juice... we avoid this by giving him high carb/protien snacks throughout the day (crackers with peanut butter, cheese and crackers, that sort of thing, the combination of carbs and protien keep the sugar up longer) he ALWAYS has food available. At night he takes a sippy cup of milk to bed, and drinks it through the night, this avoids the morning lows... if he is low in the morning a sippy cup of apple juice does the trick... but do follow up with carbs, as giving a shot of sugar will only raise the blood sugar temporarily, and the drop afterwards can be worse than the first one... the carbs will keep the sugar levels up over the long term... > Has anyone heard of bruising - and mood altering meltdowns fixed by sugar/ > juice etc. associated with mito?? > > > > Suzanne in AZ
