Guest guest
Ok,,let me try this again. I posted a question last week about the mtDNA test,,,but didn't put it in the subject line. Maybe I will get more responses this way. Logan's neuro took blood last week, for the mtDNA test,,and I was wondering what he is looking for. Does anyone know what the test will show us,,and how will this test help ? Also,,the last time I got Logan's hair cut,,the stylist asked me if anything has been going on with Logan,,because his hair texture is changing. It is very wiry,,and if you pull a hair out it looks kinda like this /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ . Has anyone ever seen this ? The only thing different is the Carnitor that he is taking. Any ideas ?Kim mom to Meaghan 15 ~~Katelyn 12 Bipolar, and OCD ~~ Logan 7 Autism, congenital myopathy, possible mitochondrial disease, and JRA ~~ and Ethan 5 and 100 % BOY__________________________________________________
Guest guest
Menkes Syndrome causes kinky hair. It is sometimes referred to as Kinki Hair syndrome. We have a friend with it, but did not meet him and his mom until this year so I do not know if it is always kinky or if the kinkiness develops with time. Guest guest
You could ask for his ceruloplasmin levels to be checked. Also, his copper and iron levels should be checked. Those with Menke's disease usually don't live long and it is usually diagnosed at a young age. I do know of some kids who have lived into their teens but they have been severely impacted. http://www.gpnotebook.co.uk/cache/1362427937.htm http://www.chm.bris.ac.uk/motm/caeruloplasmin/pathology/menke.htm
