Guest guest
Dawn I guess its working enough that you want to keep doing it right? I know the Walmart grocery here sells apple juice with splenda...would that work? With , we had to do five tablespoons...he was a big boy...and we got him to drink it in Fresca...he never got soda so it was a treat...now, the first few times we all sat at the table and rooted him on. Bliss was only about 15 months, at the time and even learned the cheer...Go ...Go !!!! He liked it after the first couple of times. I think we tried it in Raspberry Crystal light a couple times too and that was fine but he liked the Fresca better. I would look on the diabetic aisle and for sugar free things and see what you can come up with. The drinking and allergy definitely make it a challenge...let us know what you come up with. deb...mom to four great kids and wife to one amazing guy!www.LifeofLoveProject.orgwww.debwells.com
Guest guest
Hello all, My daughter Molly has been on cornstarch at naptime and bedtime for months. She has been doing poorly and we have been put on a trial to increase her alot with the cornstarch (to 3 tabelspoons). The situation is that I have been giving it in appelsauce for numerous reasons. She has food allergies to wheat, peanut, milk and egg. She can not have th usual things that you put it in. the doc said she wants to find something without sugar but couldn't come up with any ideas. I don't want to add it to her milk. She has had a difficult time getting in her fluids lately and if she hates it in her milk then she could stop all together drinking it. She doesn't drink any other fluids. I am at a loss. HELP! Any ideas would be appreciated, Dawn
Guest guest
Hey Dawn! When you say sugar free, do you mean the natural sugars, too? (Like the applesauce you're using?) How about baby food, either store bought (I know some companies are on the sugar free bandwagon, some even offer egg-free and gluten-free baby food.) or blend your own. It's really easy to mix anything in those, and there is such a variety. I'm having a similar problem trying to mix duocal in Maddie's food- I can taste it and so can she, and her fluid intake is so poor that I, too, don't want to risk her developing any aversion to drinking! Guest guest
I only can think of maybe a fruit or berry smoothie, mixed with ice. Speaking from experience do try to make her like it. The exact thing your doctor warned you about happened with our daughter Grace. She had always eaten well, even with food sensitivities, but when it came down to her needing more and more medication and then the cornstarch she stopped eating or drinking. It was too the point that everything she ate had something in it, so she stopped eating. We tried making things she liked without meds in them just to encourage her eating, but she would not try it. Eventually this lead to her needing a g tube. She never did have to have nutrition through the tube, but all of her medication was put in it. Thankfully she is older now (2 1/2) and stable so she does not take as many medications, she still has the tube but now it is only for fluids when she is ill. We are now even considering removing it, because she always ends up in the hospital anyways for fluids. (Drs are still opposed to removing it, so we agreed to wait at least 6 months.) Guest guest
I am still trying to learn so pardon my silly questions. I have been reading about these children that are using cornstarch. What is this for? Why are they taking it and especially at nap or bedtime? Sorry for the questions, I am just trying to see if there is ANYTHING to help my children. Thank you for your help. Guest guest
Hi All Can anyone tell me about the diets of various these forms of mitochondrial [PDCD , Leigh’s , Complex 1-5 ] I have a child of 14 months with a highly suspected case. I just want to know some questions for the dietician. Before his last acidosis attack he was thriving on a lot of pasta, fish and vegetables. But from reading it appears a low carbohydrate diet is recommended for some conditions. Laurie wrote: I am still trying to learn so pardon my silly questions.
