Guest guest
Hi - We were wondering if we could cut it in half and drill some holes and then bolt 2 pieces of the old bar in the middle - I will keep this as an option I think. We had the 14 " adjustable gold bar which has been great - up to now. The 'temporary' replacement one is a fixed 10 " thing. I have put them on him but they look so small. He is still in the size 3 shoe - the shoes are fine I really just hope we can cope for a couple of weeks with this small one. I don't think we have a choice of what bar we get - I asked her to order me the 14 " adjustable one as I too like to be able to adjust it and the ends sticking out have never been an issue - but i have always struggled with her and the bar length. She was almost not going to order us a new one today and said this 10 " one will be fine - I know it is not he is most comfy with them out more and he is broad shouldered. He is set just over the 12 " on our old one. Lets just hope this new bar comes quickly. He has never been the best sleeper either and I have just gotten used to the odd night of him waking now - i will have to see what happens tonight - you never know he may be ok..... Rach -- Re: Bar Width Rach- I don't know what the length difference is with your gold bar as far as the heel-to-heel versus bolt-to-bolt settings. It might be quite large because his shoes are big?! They're hopefully close enough that it won't cause him any discomfort at least for a few nights. I think the heel-to-heel is usually the best bet for comfort, though some people use bolt-to-bolt....probably anywhere in between the two will work as long as the child is comfortable and can't pull his feet out. Did you talk to the orthotist about maybe ordering you the red adjustable bar instead of the fixed length gold bars? We had the red bar, and to me, it was so much nicer having the option to adjust the length instead of worrying about the baby outgrowing it...plus I don't think I'd like the ends of the bar sticking out on the gold one- but maybe the ease of attaching/detaching the shoes on the gold bar makes up for those shortcomings! I guess it's all in what you're used to! I hope he doesn't mind the smaller bar and I hope you get your replacement quickly! Oh, and I remember that one family took their smaller bar and had an extension piece welded into the center of it once....maybe you have a manufacturing business or automobile repair shop nearby that could do that for you?! Guest guest
Hi Rach, you can put two bars together to make an adjustable bar. And it would be plenty long enough to last him a while. They made one for Darbi a few months back and this is how they did it. They took two large bars, cut off one end from each, then placed them over the top of each other and clamped them together with hose clamps. So two 10 " bars could be as long as say 18 " . LMK if this doesn't make sense and I'll take a picture of Darbi's bar. Works pretty good, but you do need to pad it because the hose clamps could slice a mom up lol! Hope he's ok tonight, I know when Darbi gets just a little bit too big for her bar she wakes constantly. Guest guest
Hi Kori I can't believe it but Connor actually slept all night - His little legs are so close together I thought there was no chance so perhaps I am just paranoid about the bar length and I religiously measure it when I think it is too small!!!!!!! Anyway we will see how it goes but will definately be making a bigger one if it becomes an issue!!!! He can't walk in these shoes which he finds a bit frustrating and has to go back to crawling and we can hardly get him on the potty and spreading his legs a bit!!! with it on but we have managed so far!!!! Roll on the new bar!!! Rach -- Re: Bar Width > >Rach- >I don't know what the length difference is with your gold bar as far >as the heel-to-heel versus bolt-to-bolt settings.
