Guest guest
Hey Steve....wanna share a hotel room? lol!! I am with you on the Spain idea. Dr. Baltasar has some great results...and of course the expense is much less. Besides...I can think of worse things than recovering in such a beautiful place. The scenery would be enough to inspire me to do my walking around the town sightseeing > O.K. I am getting worn out by Blue Cross and I'm anxious to move on. > > Anyone know of some post-ops who have gone to Spain? > > What were the conditions like? > > Would they do it again? > > Some input from actual post-ops would be nice. Guest guest
Steve, I had my DS by Dr. Baltasar May 31, 2001. I, too, had gotten sick of trying to fight my insurance company for approval. I felt that due to my general health and not wanting to deteriorate any more having this surgery done and getting the weight off soon was most important to me. I was very concerned that I would no longer be able to continue working, and I had no desire to be on permanent disability. So, I made the choice to go to Spain. I went by myself and met up with two other Americans at the clinica who had their surgery the same week as I. Dr. Baltasar is a top-notch surgeon and very compassionate human being. The clinica does not have all the bells and whistles of a hospital here in the US, but you pay dearly for those. I am an RN working in intensive care here in the US and I must say I was impressed with the simplicity of the care and how fast I was up and going. I only had a simple IV for this surgery, no foley catheter, no nasogastric tube, no epidural catheter, and no central IV lines. I did not miss having those things at all. As far as I am concerned, they are just avenues for infection for most people. On the second day post-op I was up and walking two blocks on the streets of Alcoy as instructed by the physician. I am now almost two months out and feeling great. Please contact me privately if I can give you any information or help. Sandy C. Guest guest
Steve, I got a really good feel about how things work with going to Spain by joining the group list for Dr. Baltasar and reading all of the posts going back to last October. The list name is: DrBaltasar- duodenalswitch. Good luck! margy > O.K.
